XP PRO X64 Edition Update Problem

I have just installed a fresh copy of Windowx XP Pro X64 Edition, updated it via windows update but it keeps failing on 1 update (KB896428) I have tried it several times to no avail.

I have also tried to download the standalone installler but it comes up with the error updatebr.inf is invalid!!!

Anyone else got this problem?

I've also been having problems updating a fresh install of Win2KPro.

At first no update was installing, they were all downloading but all failing to install. I read about booting into safe mode and removing \WINNT\SoftwareDistribution folder and visiting Windows Update again.

That sort of worked but it is hit and miss, I still have one or two that won't install. I thought this was meant to be the user friendly OS

I'm so glad I made incremental ghost images during the painful Windows reinstall, one of which was before Windows Update.
