XP Serial Num help

My mate has a PC that he bought from a well known PC shop about 2 years ago. It had on it XP Home OEM. Thing is, he has no XP disc but the PC has a sticker on it with the Serial number for the Home OEM. Now, i have an XP OEM Home edition CD so can he use that to install windows back onto his machine, using his Serial number from the case? Ta

yeah you SHOULD be able to aslong as he uses his Product key

Whats make is the PC normally when bought from a shop They have a backup partition.

make sure its the same type of disc

ie a dell oem disc won't work with a normal xp oem cd key

you can check the key will work by running the setup disk from within your windows desktop. you'll get prompted for the key in one of the first steps. once you've confirmed it does/doesn't work, you can just cancel setup.
