XP skins and bits

You have 3 colours already built into Windows. Blue, Silver or Olive Green which can be accessed via display -> appearance in the control panel but you probably already know that :)

Another alternative is WindowBlinds which is found here. I would reccomend though that you have at least 512mb of ram before installing it as it does use a bit of memory up but its a good application for changing the way Windows looks completely.

when say playing a game does that memory still get used or is it freed as you aren't seeing it?

im using some snazzy looking theme which makes windows look great, new shutdown start screen and sound, new icons taskbar, everything pretty much has changed for the better but i don't like that it takes up a lot of memory

Don't use it then ;)

I wouldn't worry too much about memory usage really, so long as you have a modern system it won't make much difference.

I used to use Window Blinds as it had a nice theme that came with it, but it now just irritates me. I installed it the other day, put loads of themes on it, then realised I didn't like any of them and removed it.

Windows XP actually has more than 3 skins. You can drop it back to 'Classic Windows' and then you have loads of colour profiles to pick from.

I'm actually using Windows Classic as I prefer it over the standard three colours they give you for XP's styling.

why did windows only give you 3 themes? seems silly to me as surely they aren't that hard to make and they give you just a few yet the look of windows imo should be the most customisable as its a widely used thing and each person would surely want theres different

does anyone actually use the olive green theme?

Olive Green!!!!!!! I tried it once and my eyes nealry dropped into my cheeks

I'm sure Microsoft took a peek at WindowsBlinds and decided to go a little further with the Vista themes..lol
