A friends daughter has managed to replace the xp sound scheme with a sound scheme from "moshi monsters" I cannot get the original theme back or any other theme. I can't find where the new sounds are, search for *.wav only reveals the default sounds. If i try to reselect the sounds with the original xp sounds, nothing changes.

Any ideas?

copy them from a normal install, probably just overwritten the files

either that or set them to disabled

the original files are still there and when played in media player are fine. When selected through the sound schemes they play the Moshi monster sounds - which are similar to having Tinitus.

Do you know if your friends Daughter intended to change the sound scheme by installing something? Reason I ask is im wondering if this is some form of malware/virus in which case you could try running the likes of Malware bytes etc. Failing all else you could try a repair install as a last resort which should sort it.

The theme was intentionally installed, from the moshi monster site (its a kids gaming site) the noises are a UFO type theme, annoying to an adult probably fine for a kid, so I'm happy its not a virus.

It's a bad job when they don't even provide an uninstaller for such things. Repair install is always a last resort although I have to say myself it's a little extreme just to sort the Windows sound scheme.

I agree, initially thought this was going to be a simple matter of selecting the original theme again but its not turned out like that at all.
