I am now greeted by this prompt every time I boot up. Even if I don't allow it to install it is waiting for me next time.
Is there any reason for me to not want want it to install or if there is can you tell me a way to prevent the prompt. Many thanks.

FGS get SP3.

Grab the Admin Package that you have to download.

Then install in Safe Mode and you will get no issues.

Thanks for the answers.Because I have a glitch on my PC which prevents the "restore pont" facility. I would rather not install SP3.
Can anyone please tell me how I can access windows update and tell it that I do not want to be notified again about SP3 but would want other security updates.

without sp3 your going to struggle to get other updates as SP3 contains a lot of hotifixes and updates your system needs.

Intergrate SP3 into your disk, and format with SP3.
or

Is your system os illigal?

No, my copy of XP Home is pukka. The thing is I have always had a problem for the last 4 years where I cannot boot into DOS or go back with a restore point.
My machine works 100% apart from that and would rather not take a chance on SP3 in case. I also would not want to re-install either.
In a perfect world I would just like it the way it is with auto updates without SP3.
Unfortunately as you guys have said I can't have one without the other.
For the time being, I shall therefor turn off auto updates and hope for the best.

For the sake of 3 hours of your life you could have SP3 intergrated with a full system updated. People on OcUK can only advise but if you wish not to update your system then that's ok.

Well, you could install a WSUS server and have it only synchronize Security Updates and not Service Packs. Then point your machine at your WSUS server instead of update.microsoft.com and you'll not be notified of SP3.

However, getting an XP Home machine to connect to a WSUS server requires some manual firkle-ing to get it to work. Much easier to just go with SP3. Back-up your pre-SP3 machine if you're worried the SP will terminally bork your machine.
