Does anyone know when Windows SP3 released?

Are there any Bata versions out at the mo?

Q1 2008, might be H1 2008 now

there are some beta versions out, but i'd only use them on a test system

How stable is it?

I was thinking of using it on a fresh install on my main PC next week.

You might as well wait. There are no problems with the current SP2 + updates.

it's basically xpsp2 with more hotfixes all roled into one

it's just there are some hotfixes which haven't been easy to obtain that are included, which 'could' mean they might have problems.. (unlikely though)

i'd just stick with xp sp2 and updates if it's your main pc, especially if you don't like the idea of having to format

I've been using it since I reinstalled before christmas, not had a problem.

I'm running SP3 RC2 on my MacBook at the moment and it is rock solid. I wouldn't bother installing it if you already running a fully patched SP2 system but I was doing a fresh install and slipstreamed it to the ISO. Yes you'll have to reinstall it when it goes final but I plan on moving to Vista by then.

Build 5503 is out in the wild, but not officially. Although it will be an official release at some point according to this article. Installs as above.
