Hi

Im having a few problems with my PC.
It all started when i tried to reinstal win XP on a dual boot system. For some unknown reason XP removed my Vista files and i could only use XP.

Problem #1
After reinstalling both operating systems i began having problems with starting up my PC.

When i start my PC it just gets stuck on the BIOS EVGA logo screen. At this point it just locks up and does nothing.

Occasionally if i hammer the TAB key i can get into the POST screen, at this point it just gets stuck on 'Detecting SATA devices'
i can also sometimes get into the BIOS menu.

On occasion the PC will randomly manage to get past this stage and boot up. I thought this problem would be caused by the dual boot and i have removed
Vista. Unfortunatly this did not solve the problem.

Any idea's how i might get this fixed?

Problem #2
After removing Vista from my second HDD i still get the dual boot menu asking me to selected XP or Vista when my PC manages to start up. I can only imagine that this means some how vista
files were installed onto my first HDD.
Does anyone know how i might find these files so that they can be removed?

Thanks for your help

Re problem 2

I can only offer my experience from dual booting Win98 + XP and also XP + XP.

To get rid of the boot menu, Right click on my computer > Properties > Advanced. In the startup and recovery section (bottom of page), click settings. Either edit the startup file, removing the line for the vista partition, or if its not bothering you too much, reduce the amount of seconds that the screen stays on.

Let us know how you get on. :)

Re: Re: Problem #2

Hmm ive checked what you suggested and all i can see is

Code:
;
;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.
;Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.
;
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT

Cant see anything about vista :confused:

Unfortunately, Bill has decreed that only vista is permitted to edit boot scrpits now, you can't do it from XP.
fdisk /mbr still works though.

Windows it the most disgusting OS ever..."oh look, there's a bootloader for another OS, I MUST DESTROYYYYY!!!!!!" Redmond's little Dalek, exterminating the competition. Except this time it's killed one of it's own LOL.
