XP vs Sempron

According to this here the "Paris" Semprons were Socket 754 desktop processors without AMD64 support and there were several mobile/desktop replacement Semprons, "Dublin" and others without AMD64 support. But they are all going to be K8's I would say. The "Athlon XP" branding, in my mind anyway are all K7's chips, the latest being the Barton.

Is it strange that I can actually enable cool & quiet on this thing???

I was reading a review the other day that they were the desktop replacements for the likes of HP who managed to have the 'Dublin' chip and the ECS Motherboard as an all in one solution.

Its a pokey little thing. Runs far cry with a crappy 6200 128meg clocked 25% more at medium settings

If th emotherboard has good overclocking features like cpu voltage upto 1.6 and high FSB (300MHz or more) then a current Sempron (256kb cache ones only) will stomp on your old chip when overclocked. and probably faster (especially per pound) than even 1MB cache 3700 CH

It will need to be overclocked though

I'm running it with a 300W power supply though.

Is that enough oooomph?

If Mul says that it's not a great OC board then he's most likely right so the best advise I have is...

...Don't listen to Me! :D :D

@Mul - Hey Mul, I've been trying to find someone else who has bought a new 3700 as I have but have still been sources a mobo.

It's very good to know you have got 2.9 out of it. What sorta cooling is that?

Just found an MSI Neo2 which should do the job nicely :cool:

he's got an SiS based board. HTT's will top out in the early 200's i'd expect.

I have managed to get it to 220 comfortably and anything over it just locks up

edit:1.6GHz -> 1.86GHz

Come to think of it I built a very cheap system for someone a few years back using a bundle of an ECS (same firm as PC Chips IIRC) mobo with a Duron pre-installed. I think the Duron had a non standard description like Duron 1600+ or something like that when it was actually running at 1.2 ghz. So I guess they could have re-named a Mobile Sempron an XP-M like the last guy in that thread suggests.
