XP Vs Vista

I've just installed Vista Ultimate 64bit and got the latest SP1 (it's closest to the final release as it can be at the moment) and I have to say I'm enjoying using Vista coming from XP. It's not slow by any means and can match the performance of XP now. Give it a go and see how you get on ;).

I still using Vista Ulitmate 64 since last year - quite happy with it also no hiccup as it prefect running so I go for Vista 64 if i were ye..

On Vista x64 if you merge two folders say two copies of your MP3 libraries does it completely merge them or does it leave behind empty folders and random files. Is copying across the network the same speed as a XP Machine

Copying across my own Network is about the same speed as it was on XP. I didn't notice much of a difference anyway ;).

I haven't really felt the need to time it, usually a 700MB file takes a minute or two maximum, it's hasn't exceeded that in Vista for me.

vista is just as fast as xp, if not faster (in performance) and has lots of new features.

In this months PCFormat they have an article saying that XP is now TWICE as fast as Vista (for general use) which, even if it is the case, is not comparing like with like.

I often wonder what the comparison would be like between Vista as it is now after it's first year on current hardware and whatever state XP was in after a year of release (SP1 would have been out for about a month), running on the available hardware of the time e.g. an Athlon XP3000+, 512Mb Ram and a Radeon 9800XT.

No one could say XP was twice as fast then, not even for web browsing.

It probably wasn't, I can't remember back that far and I can't even remember if I had XP installed. People are just comparing Vista with XP now and it's wrong, they aren't taking into consideration the hardware requirements of Vista and that of XP. XP wants what, 128MB of RAM?

As for SP1 I swear sound quality has improved as well! something just makes details and bass more "detailed" than before...

Also the Wifi performance is better too, now able to constantly max my 20MB connection, before it was between 2 and 2.2.

^^^ :D:D:D at fatrakoon, obviously just got back in from a boozy night out :D

I wish.

No, its a reference to multiple things.

1 - How many times this question has been asked.

2 - The number of people who haves said one thing then said the other in another thread

3 - No matter how many times you say something, another question comes along ( Within days ) asking the same thing.

4 - I like Vista

5 - I like XP

6 - If you buy Vista, why the hell ask us which is better? - Try it, if oyu dont like it, put XP back on. Whats so hard about that?

Gone from Vista back to XP, my Adaptec card isn't supported in Vista. Vista 32 was halting for some reason, ie a Windows Explorer window crashing, not a BSOD but still annoying.
