it is cheaper 4 me -£100 cheaper to buy an upgrade version of win 7 ultimate 64 bit than to buy win 7 ultimate 64 bit as a full edition. I have just got a new build pc, should i just buy the full version and load it or install xp then an upgrade edition of win 7 or isn't it worth the hassle.

Stick with XP SP3 - much faster and user-friendly than the bloated WIN 7. E.g., XP3 runs about 30+ "Services" whereas my new WIN 7 laptop is running 160+

XP isn't more user friendly at all, I think you're getting mixed up with the term. Just because someone is use to XP doesn't make it more user friendly.

As to the services it's not really an issue, Windows 7 certainly isn't four times slower for having four times as many running services. I highly doubt they impact the performance for it to be noticeable.

To the guys above he's on about services and not processes i'd imagine!

Good to see in the 6 posts or so you've made that you come out with an absolutely stupid comment.

You'll notice that XP degrades after time because the OS does not do any house-keeping where as Windows 7 does - you'll also notice security benefits, a nicer interface and generally a lot nicer OS to use.

I wouldn't recommend sticking with XP to my worse enemy !!
I havnt had a single issue with W7 since install over a year ago, unlike xp which had problems all the time .

Windows 7 is a much better operating system than XP, its probably not as erganomically designed as XP but its a lot richer in features and like others have said manages itself a lot better.
