Hi there,

I was just trying to troubleshoot the poor performance on my fathers computer. I thought i'd go about uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics drivers, things i have done hundreds of times when i had a PC. But now that i have uninstalled the graphics drivers in safe mode via driver sweeper the computer just bsod's as the windows xp splash screen starts to fade in...

What can i do if anything to get the computer back to what it was, safe mode boot doesn't work nor does any of the other options such as "last known good configuration".

Would it having sli 8800GTX's with no graphics drivers affect booting, shall i take one out?

Thanks for any help, really need to get this computer working or i'm in the dog house with my father as it's his work PC.

Tried a windows repair?

Is that using the original XP disc and pressing enter then repairing windows?

I was going to try this but wasn't sure if it would screw all the valuable data on the hard drives.

Would this just repair the windows installation and leave all the other files intact?

yes, go through like your doing a fresh install. Then it will detect Windows installation and ask if you want to repair it.

Leaves all programs and files intact. Just need to update everrything again.

Was just about to do that but the repair option isn't there?! :(

It's usually there when you want to install or delete partitions aint it?

Its usualy before that point.

If im right in saying it will ask you to press any key to boot from disk do this then it will check your system at the first stage after this where it asks for your input it should say about instaling windows then secondly about repairing a preveous windows. an last of all about exiting.

you want the second. if you are at the point of partitioning you are in the first one and gone to far.

If you click on the second one where it repairs the windows its pretty self explanitory. if you can install windows i have all faith in you being able to repair windows. If im not mistaken it is similar to doing a restore point but with out loosing things. it simply runs through and makes sure the settings are all corect, i have only used it once or twice myself tho

Right, this time i tried to go through with the windows install an the recovery option appeared this time. Weird that it didn't before.

Now, it boots but it boots into safe mode and therefore setup of the new windows files does not work and just says press enter to restart and is a continuously loop...Is there a way in the BIOS or anywhere to change it to normal?

Thanks for the help so far!

when it boots up do you get the F8 safe mode boot screen where you have to choose the form of boot up?

If so select start with last known good settings run it for a few minuites shut down and start again making sure the disk is out the tray
see if it boots up and goes straight through no problems.

Only other thing i could think of is boot up and try restore to a preveous point before the time it all went pete tong.

No boot option menu on the damn thing.

Had to go into recovery console and input a fews things to get it back to booting normally.

It then proceeded to boot up as normal and finished off the installation of windows!

And....it works! Touch wood! :p

Windows can really be like a house of cards sometimes!
