Hi guys :)

Im not entirley happy with the temps im getting on an xp2600. It's hitting 60c idle with a coolermaster x-dream on fullspeed (fan has a rheostat built in) :(

All I did was take out an xp1800 t-bred and plonk this xp2600 in and put a dap of goop on the core and leave the cpu at stock settings

Stability wise everything is ok but even my barton 2800 runs cooler than this lol

it should run a lot cooler, i used to have an xdream. they werent great, but they werent that bad lol. check its nothing silly like the cpu voltage too high, and try reapplying the heatsink:)

well, i found an old post that said i was at 40c idle/49c load with a tbred @ 2.1ghz with an xdream. i dont think the added 100mhz of an xp2600+ is going to mean 20c higher temps all round, and my temps werent with the fan at full pelt either. i never could stand noise.

Hmmm I made sure the heatsink was clean before re-applying it, made sure the cpu was flat in the socket and also made sure the core was clean before applying the heatsink goop stuff

Then I reset/cleared the cmos... still sat at 60c
I do wonder if the board is just cack at reporting temps, its a cheapy ECS L7VTA thing in my daughters pc

I havent got the time to keep messing with it so I shall leave it for now and just see what happens, also played a game or two to put the cpu underload and the temps only went up a bit lol

right time for a new cooler i think. i used to run my old xp-m2600 at 2.5ghz with 1.825v  and it ran stable 100%. the cooler i used was a gigabyte G-Power BL. not very noisy but offered amazing cooling power, its probably the second best cooler your going to get on socket A systems. if you have mounting holes around your cpu socket then you can fit a thermaltake big typhoon. thats more quiet and better at cooling than the g-power, cheaper too.

mind you my BT cost me £18 inc vat, and the g-power cost me £20 inc vat from my local pc shop. for ease of fitting i would suggest the g-power. no need for board removal.
