Right... bit of an update. I lost my garage a few weeks ago so had to store it in a garage so small i couldnt work on the car. Finally sorted myself a nice double garage to work in, so work commences again. But whilst browsing thru the local adtrader i noticed an Escort RS Turbo breaking for spares, non runner and turbo was passing oil last going off... So went to have a look, has been resprayed in Vauxhall VXR blue, but has a black bonnet due the bonnet opening on the guy when driving. But im not using the shell so that dont matter. When i looked in the engine bay, i noticed the ECU has been chipped at some point, when idling the car sounds like it has a cam possibly, but will check, got receipts for a -31 actuator and it has a T3 Turbo fitted (well one that needs a refurb). Anyways, as i was saying it was a "non runner", so i turned up armed with my Fuel Pump relay, banged it in and it started pretty much first time and it had been standing for 6 months. I drove it home :) Smoked like a train but pulled like crazy! So the engine will be going in my XR2.

Zetec engine is ready to come out of my XR2, once thats out i will make a start on taking the RS Turbo apart, bit worried about this as there seems to be a lot i need to fit into my XR2 engine bay! Also worried about the fuel setup, as it looks like its got a pump under the car near the tank, then i think there is one in the engine bay too? Ive currently got a Fiesta RS Turbo internal fuel pump, can i just use this?

Anyways some pics of the RS Turbo

Seems a shame to waste an Escort RS Turbo, nice colour as well, to bung the engine in an old Fiesta. Is the Escort not fixable?

People nicking engines is what killed all the nice 405 Mi16's :(

That RST at Powerstation at the last meet with the big brakes was pure win! Can imagine that engine being a lot of fun in an XR2, they don't weigh much do they?

That escort looks cool, is there no way you'd rather do that one up and keep the engine in it? Does seem a shame to take it out as you rarely see those cars on the road now.

Couldn't agree more. Please leave it be, my uncle had one of these and I adored it as a kid/watching him working on it and most of all being passenger while he hooned it about.

ROFL, so you say it's a shame to scrap old Escorts but wanted me to scrap my 420 because of a (cheap and easily fixable) leaky fuel tank.

Awesome

Andy, love the RS. Nice to hear you're still working on the XR2. It would certainly be pretty rapid with a ~150bhp engine! What do you think the Zetec is putting out?

Please get that engine into an XR2 - then donate to me :D

I really miss my XR2 - like a bloody go kart - so much fun :(

Andy

Whats the shell like? engine bay area seems clean and rust free :)

Fuel pumps on these are where you found it on this one, under the car near the tank.No pump under the bonnet(i think :p ) just a massive petrol filter on right hand side

Hard choice but having had a XR2 Turbo there massive fun and my friends with a cage and turbo lump it was still in the 700kg range! Real big car chaser.

Whats the XR2 shell like?

Would be a shame to kill of a genuine RS, not many around now, certainly know what would be worth more.

not really worth that much in a non original colour amparo blue is it?

horrid get it ripped apart pronto :)

The Rover is simply a badly built banger, the Escort RS Turbo is beginning to gain classic status. There is a slight difference.

lol, thats pretty much the first thing I noticed when I went in there last month I turned to my mate "holy **** look at the size of those brakes" ;)

Did anyone see the new Subaru bit they're doing upstairs? Looks well cool!

On topic, that colour doesnt suit the car at all, shame really because it doesn't look like its in that bad a condition, is it an XR2i or old school one?

I think it's too good to good to scrap too i'm afraid.

I don't think much of the colour, but there is such a thing as paint :) Needs the ford badge on the bonnet too IMO, looks a bit chavvy without.

The Escort looks very solid. I'd be looking for a rotter/write off to take the engine from myself, seems a bit daft to break a good Escort (even if the colour doesn't suit it)

Bit of an overkill isn't it? I thought the one in the 205 was huge, it's got nothing on that one.

Mine now has a diddy filter, the stock one takes up way too much room.
