Hi guys,
I do a lot of IT work for my friends who own a Media Business. We are currently building a new office and have built in new network cabling.

They are currently running on a win2k3 server. This has not been too bad however they are looking to make a complete move to mac's with no windows machines at all.

I have been looking at an xserve a long with some sort of SAS. They need a lot of storage space and want fast access to files. There will be 5 macs in the main editting studios and probably around another 5 macbooks that will need to connected when needed.

There may also be people coming in with Windows laptops that may need access to files on the server.

What do you guys think, is there anything we should consider before we commit ourselves to this. I would really like any input on this one guys.

I couldn't justify buying one myself, unless you need some particular feature of OSX server. If not then a HP running Redhat will be cheaper, faster and more flexible. I have had a brief play with one and they are lovely machines, really nice quality but compared to something like a DL360 running RHEL 5.3 I couldn't justify (unless there's something in OSX server you need, or the people running it are clueless and need the nice GUI)
