Hey folks

So I've had my 600 Srad for 3 years now and still love it to bits. I've put a lot of time and money into it to get it how I want and for an old bike she still keeps up with the new guys, However it's now time for a change and to get something a bit newer.

I've pretty much settled on an R6, looking at 07/08 model.
It would be used for weekend blats and the occasional track day, no commuting.

Just wondering if any one here has one and what you think of it, also if there's any thing mechanical or otherwise to watch out for when buying second hand?

A lot of my friends have asked why I don't want to progress to a 1000 and to be honest I'm not to fussed by them, I've ridden a few sports 1000 and while there great I much prefer the rag its **** off style of the 600's.
I did take a daytona for a test ride recently which I loved but I much prefer the look of the R6.
Also took out a new speed and streetR triple back to back yesterday and much preferred the street, however naked bikes aren't for me at the moment, the wind blast was just to much.

They are very good bikes - although they do lack a little punch low-down. I do agree they are the best looking of the 600's!

If it's for blat's and track days it should be a great bike.. if it were for mainly road use i'd say a 675 or GSX-R600 might be better suited.

I Was considering going for a new gixer as I like them a lot too but just fancy a change.

I Did love the 675 when I was riding it but it just doesn't grab me as much as the R6.
If i'm going to be spending a fair amount of money I want something I enjoy looking at as much as riding.

I've read every where that they need to be worked to get the best out of them which im happy with as I like that.
I've also read that the mid range was improved in the 08 model so maybe that would be the best choice but it might stretch my budget a bit.

I ride a 2000 r6 on the road and did a track day on hired "track prepared" new'ish r6, I don't have anything else to compare it to though!

Comparing the two the newer has a lot more mid range power than the old one naturally, I have to say I didn't like the fly by wire throttle though as it had a rather large dead spot which made down shifting a bit harder (the slipper clutch felt like it was non existent). This could have been bike specific I don't know?

In terms of handling it felt very planted, inspired me with confidence and did what I wanted it to do, I'm by no means an expert when it comes to riding on a track but it left with a grin ear to ear. I was playing with an 09 blade for quite a while and naturally it pulled away on the straights but not nearly as much as I would have expected.

Maintenance? I ride my bike to work and back everyday no matter the weather and it is kept outside under a cover. It hasn't needed any special attention compared to what any other bike would experience if you ignore the gearbox I had to have replaced (common issue on the older ones). In terms of reliability it has never let me down in 2 years of very frequent use and still pulls and handles very well. I've personally been considering getting a newer model although part of me wants to try a bigger bike first to see if it's something I'd prefer but the newer one I tried on the track left me with an upgrade itch so to say ;)

cbr600rr? serviced a friends bike then took it out for 30 mins .. was surprisingly quick and good fun .. I like the r6 but they really need to be thrashed to get the most out of them

cbr600rr?

Don't you swear at me! :D

lol, thanks for the suggestion, I've ridden one a few times and its just classic Honda, Reliable and efficient in every way but soulless and no character. Not a huge fan of the styling either.

I think any thing is going to be a huge improvement over my srad and I'm hoping to do as many track days as possible next year with a trip to the nurburgring and also hoping to make the annual trip to the south of France, though guaranteed i'm going to ache like a gooden if I do get the R6.

well normally i would not recommend a honda (other than the hornet) as the blade is soooo boring for a litre bike but i actually found the little cbr fun !

Other obvious option would be a newer gsxr (k6 750? )

Lol I know what you mean.

nah I appreciated the suggestion I think i've just got a thing about Honda's :)

A newer gixer was my initial thought, I've been more than happy with my Srad and the 750 would be the natural progression, But I still think i'd rather have an R6.

Basically there are 3 bike's on my list which I keep mulling over and at the moment the R6 is on top unless I convince myself or someone else convinces me otherwise.

2007/8 R6
Gsxr K6/7 750
daytona 675

R6 looks the best but the other two mentioned are far better road bikes.

I own the 2004 R6 but feel drawn towards the 07/08 R1 now for the extra torque!

dont bother with a 1 litre bike, theres no difference at all apart from drinking petrol a lot faster and more torque, just keep the 600 revved high and youll get just the same if not more thrills and enjoyment
