I thought I would post this firstly because there are loads of threads about OCs going **** up so this may brighten the mood, and secondly because Im pretty chuffed I got this working!

My E4500 is sitting happily at 2.8Ghz, rock steady on Orthos!

One question is the RAM-my Ballistix DDR2 5300 is running at 780mhz, which is great in my opinion, but it has timings of 5 4 4 18. Is that last one a little lax? If so, whats the best way to go about changing it? I tried overclocking my RAM the other day and it wasnt too happy about it, so Im a little nervy when it comes to changing timings (frankly I understand very little about them!)

I have the same ram m8.

Set the vdimm (memory voltage) to 2.2v - this is still within crucials spec so don't worry.

Set the timings to 4-4-4-12 for circa 800mhz, 5-5-5-15 for circa 1000mhz.

Just tried it, got BSOD saying IRQ not less or equal (I think-it didnt stay up that long!).
I know very little about RAM timings, so Im just going to make sure I am changing the right things. Should I be changing:
CAS latency time, DRAM rAS# to CAS#Delay, DRAM RAS# Precharge and Precharge Delay to 4-4-4-12 in that order?

Or have I changed completely the wrong thing?

The motherboard can make a difference yeah but the most important thing is to ensure you are feeding it enough voltage. Make sure you set the vdimm to 2.2v if you are overclocking it. If its stable at that then start to reduce the voltage to get a good medium.

Yes in that order. Its usually set out in the bios.

Leave the rest if there are any (subtimings) on Auto.

Don't forget the voltage!

Yep, thats what Ive done-it didnt like it!
There was one subtiming that was already on 0 for some reason, which I left like that. When I put RAM timings on auto it is at 36-could that be the problem?

I tried it on 5-5-5-15 and it boots fine, so I think I will just leave it at that for now-its good enough for me!

my 4x1gig ballistix pc5300 are currently sat at 800mhz 4-3-3-9, passed 8 hours of orthos large ftt's, and 8 hours blend, and 8 hours small ftt's, so i guess it's stable, never really run memtest before... think i should?
