Hello, I just wanted to see if anyone has the ASUS Commando board as im thinking of buying it. In your opinion is it a good board and is it worth the money? Could you also tell what sort of overclocking results you have achived. Thanks

Not worth the money. Other boards have the same features and can perform as well for half the price.

I understand that the board may be equivilent to that of another but with a cheaper price tag, however I am also considering the package... for example full version of 3DMark 06 comes with it. I am initially interested in it after reading a review on it conducted by the magazine 'Custom PC.'

3DM 06 is free anyway. thankyou internet

Yeah mabye... But still every little helps :) And no I don't work for Tesco :p

Plus I am also looking for a good looking board as I have a windowed PC I wish to mod it and look inside with glee :D

According to WJA who is a bit of a mobo expert the Abit AB9 QuadGT has all the features of the Asus Commando for much cheaper. The only problem is quite poor BIOS updates.

What features are in the commando that aren't in the P5N-E Sli? Do you need these? Are you willing to pay twice the price for these?

Yeah I have heard about the AB9 being a good mobo... I just want a good rock solid mobo with an excelent BIOS and excelent overclocking capabilities. Plus I want a board that look good as mentioned above. One other reason I thought about getting the Commando is because the Deluxe editions seemed to be absaloutly supurb and when I Asus realesed the Commando and hearing about how it was even better then that board I was taken in. The motherbroads im interested in are:

Asus Commando
Abit AB9 Quad GT
Gigabyte DS3/DS4
Abit Fatal1ty 650i - ruled out due to unstablity and not very good overclockablity.
Asus PN5NE- 680i - ruled out due to hearing about the 680i's being unstable, too priecy and being outgunned by simular mobo's of the same price.
Asus Premium Vista - Too expensive and not very good support for the extra such as the Duo screen.

ds3 or quad gt,would lean towards ds3 as have no prior knowledge of the quad gt.plus the ds3 is very heavily supported on this site!!!

Either DS3P or P5N-E Sli. Have a look at their features and see what you need and what you don't need.

Amended for accuracy ;) .

That would still be my position though. A copy of 3DMark '06 Advanced costs £10 as a direct download from Futuremark so the question is do you want to pay an extra £25-£35 for the privilege of having "Republic of Gamers" written on your motherboard.

With the current release BIOS the QuadGT is a scorching performer.

Could I suggest you use Froogle and have a look at the EVGA 680i board? It's currently available for about £140 delivered from a reliable source and at that price it's almost decent value. If you're not interested in SLi then the QuadGT is the fastest board at the moment and it's worth the premium over the DS3P or P5B-E+.

Dont get DFI, since they shut down dfi-streets support is a pain. I got the Asus Commando Mobo, it's a good board it looks good and I havnt had any problems what-so-ever.

Nice that it tells me if I have ram or cpu problems on startup with the little screen too.

Why? Do you like having RAM or CPU problems?

:p

I can see how that would be useful.

I tell you what is REALLY useful! The external reset switches they are strating to fit to these boards. It's a godsend not having to pull out half the SATA connectors then blindly grab about with a pair of long-nose pliers to get at the reset pins. Well, that could just be me  , but I think it's easier with a switch.
