Did anyone else watch 'watchdog' last night?

The waste of time spot on the DS brain training game not understanding some retarded nothern womens lazy accent annoyed the hell out of me.

its a ******* DS game not the worlds most sophisticated voice recognition software. If she had a good command of the English tongue she wouldnt have any problems, unfortunately for her she was a lazy retarded notherner!

Ps. this isnt a rant against northerns, just this women with her TV license wasting complaint.

YELLA!

im a northener and it doesnt work for any of my family! if u even noticed on watchdog last night it only got it right when bremner spoke in the queens english and to be quite honest i'd rather not speak like her thanks

edit: i dont say yellah either. its yellow

well tbh whats the point in selling it if its only going to work with people who can speak in a perfact english accent? i kinda see the point of her complaint.

I totally agree, it was a stupid piece which kind of misses the point.

I'm a geordie with quite a strong accent and have to talk to my DS in the proper Queens english.

I don't understand why anyone would expect generic voice recognition software to recognise that many strong accents.

Dude the thing is no one uses the queens english really except for annoying toffs

Some accents are really annoying though and just plain lazy, regional dialect should be banned IMO as it means hardly anyone can understand you when you use it, defeating the point of communication entirely

It hardly matters you can play the game without using the voice feature. I don't speak the queens english but it doesn't have a problem with my fen billy accent. Although it does struggle with my wifes mockney.

It struggles with my accent a little but most with 'scissors'.

You have to say 'skizzwhores' for it to know you mean those two sharp things bolted together with handles.

I'm a Geordie and my GF is from Leeds and we have never had any trouble with voice recognition on the DS EVER.

We can both pronounce words correctly however...

I'd love to know how regional dialects were 'lazy'.

QE isn't some set standard from which those in the outlands have diverged, our regional speech differences are based upon centuries of invasion and migration evidenced by the heavy influence of Norse and Danish in the North of England compared to the heavy French inclunce in the South of England.

Just because someone says 'This is English as the Queen speaks' doesn't make it English as the population speak.
