we have these 2 in Chelmsford - and at rush-hour cause great annoyance (to me at least) - but prob to others on main road
I see why they are there - to help the buses- but in both cases as the side junction (in first case) and carpark (in other case) are very busy at rush-hour - and the layout means - in theory if you are to follow the yellow box junction rules- you on the main road can't get across the junction. Except if you drive very aggressively.
1st one - the cars are all stop start past this junction, as they are from the side road. There is not a car length if a car from side road has its nose in - so how you - on main road meant to make progress ? Yes there would be a gap behind the car with its nose in from side road -but the rear of you car will still be on the box-junction - in London that'd be a fine each time probably

other one 50 yards down the road

in normal traffic - both junctions work perfectly (although buses seem to assume they are give way for buses boxes rather than yellow box junctions !) - it is just in rush hour traffic when traffic is queuing along both the main road and side road/carpark
