Yellowstone accident

Seems feasible that remains would be unrecoverable and I can see that once enough air and fat has been released from the body, what's left is probably just going to sink anyway. But 100% gone seems unlikely.

Bodies do crazy things after death, so the combination of acid and the rapid decomposition from inside given the temperatures, would demolish tissues pretty fast.
I've seen pretty advanced decomp after 2-3 days from a warm home environment so throwing strong chemicals into the mix probably doesn't help.

Seriously? What the hell kind of school did you go to, where THAT was a rhyme? And I thought Ring a Ring o' Roses was morbid...

Grammar school - It was our Scottish chemistry teacher's bright idea. He was big on memory aids, nmemonics and things. We had to take a selection of coins into exams, so we could draw atomic structure diagrams with clean circles.

After decades, I still remember what sulphuric acid is, though...!!

I'd doubt that the body was totally dissolved but more likely what was left was not worth the effort to recover. A bit like trying to recover a cow and getting minced beef.

Sure they could recover it all, but that's not going to be financially viable or safe. I'd guess a decision was made to try but they gave up after seeing the extent of the damage.

I'm no chemist but I wouldn't be surprised if the combination of acid & heat would do it though.

Acid and heat could, but it's the 24 hours i'm wondering about.

Well since what is in the pool is basically very hot industrial drain cleaner which sole purpose is to dissolve hair and tissues in drains, I suspect 24 hours in that pool will have made a sloppy mess.

Okay bones will probably be fine but I can see the point with the rescuers that its not worth the risks to try and recover the remains.

A quick google suggests 24 hrs plus heat is enought to turn a human body to a sludge and has been used by several mexican gangs for body disposal.

How do you know it's industrial drain cleaner? I can't find any info other than a park ranger going 'yeah, it's erm...acidic'. Well so is water!

Or just very hot water.

Nah, that would just cook it nicely. It wouldn't disintegrate in 24 hours.

It's a pool.of boiling sulphur of acid, 12 is probably plenty long enough to mostly dissolve a body

Not sure what a sulphur of acid is? Where did you get the info?

I work with it, horrible stuff, I've come close to being burnt by it a few times :(

Work with what though? I can't see anything to say what it actually is! :(

Got some 97% sulphuric acid industrial drain cleaner at home, it'll clear a blocked drain in a few minutes so if that hot spring is some crazy boiling sulphuric acid then its not surprising it'll dissolve someone overnight. Grim :(
