Yet another BF2 trouble thread

Yeah, it was running sweet, then i nuked a tank with C4 on Wake and everything crawled to a halt almost, it was even worse when i changed servers and maps. I deleted the cache and this time it worked. Hopefully it'll keep working, cause im gonna go nuts if i have to delete it every second or third time i play the game.

If you make big hardware changes you are suppossed to do that anyway

Argh... its still doing it. I downloaded throttlewatch, but it doesnt show a throttling graph and when i go to the view menu, the throttle graph option is disabled.

I just had my framerate crawl to 14fps while playing Live For Speed in a 8 man race, so something is seriously off somewhere.

*sigh* Goddamn computers...

Reinstalled windows in this order:

Windows
Chipset (latest 6.70)
Updates
Display
Rest of drivers.

99% of the time fixes the problem.

Temps? Virus'? Spyware? etc

Reinstall windows tbh :)

CR.

I always install stuff in that order plus i just did a clean install last sunday, so i aint real keen on doing it again just yet. :p

No spyware or Viruses/Trojans.

Card Idles @ 45-50c
CPU Idles @ 25-35c

They only hit the second temps when i have my electric heater going, which i do now. :D

Do you think it could be my ram? Thats about the only thing i havent tested really...

Do some Sandra tests on memory bandwidth, my cpu was being held back by lack of bandwidth and it seems to have upped my fps now I've got some decent memory

s&m has a memory test under 100% processor load, should show up any problems.

It crashed my computer when the bios set the timings wrongly

Haven't read entire thread but if you're CTD'ing then it sounds like you're overclocked, which BF2 can get annoyed with. Try using one core at stock clocks.

Nah, it's not overclocked at all. I used to get the occasional CTD with my old stock Prescott too, and it's only happened twice since i upgraded.

I ran Sandras bandwidth test and apparently my ram is about 80% efficient, but i think that might have something to do with the ram being honky CAS3 with slack timings... but it is running at 1T.

I tried that s&m memory test thing and i kept gettings a message saying "Found file: xxxxx (cant remember its name) but cant link to it" or something like that.

So basically im not getting anywhere. :(

Im starting to think i should move this to another section, like General Hardware or something.

Odd problem....

Personally I have had no problems in low fps on either of the dual cores I have had....

Have you tried dropping the gfx settings right down to rule out it being a graphics card problem?

Not as yet, i just find it soooooo weird that the game(s) will run fine and then completely outta the blue the framerate will just drop. Deleting the cache in BF2 fixes that problem... but that only lasts a handful of games.

As for Live For Speed... well, there's no cache to delete. One odd thing i found though is, if i play BF2 and it starts acting up, then go on to play LFS straight after, then LFS performs badly too.

The difference between the two running well and not running so good is:

BF2: Super smooth, then litterally dropping back to a slideshow midgame.

LFS: 60fps with 5 cars infront of me (should be higher than that) and dropping as low as 14fps when its running badly.

So yeah, its a massive hit and usually its fairly sudden.
