Hello all, just want some opinions on this build that Im planning to put together come August time, when hopefully 4800 series cards have dropped in price a bit. Im not a massive gamer, but I would like the option to get back into PC gaming and would love to be able to play all the games than I can on the PC and use the 360 jus for exclusives.

Asus VH222H 22" Monitor 1080p- £150

Microsoft Wireless 1000 KB&M - £17.99

Total - £699.90

Thoughts? I absolutely cannot go over this amount and would love to bring it down to £650 is possible by cutting down wherever I can. Will be gaming at 1920 by 1080. Im not entirely sure on the mobo, since Im not sure if a Crossfire Capable mobo is necessary for me. Also, I have a feeling the 1gb 4870 may be overkill. But hopefully further price drops will make that feeling irrelevant in the near future.

Hi and Welcome :)

TBH if you're looking to buy around August time then there's plenty of time to tweak your list - on the graphics card side of things I'd be tempted to go for the 1Gb 4890 as it's a beast of a card and although the 4870 will handle that resolution the extra clockability of the 4890 will be better. By August the prices could well have dropped some more judging by how fluid they have been of late so I'd guess the 4890 will be within your budget.

Here I am thinking the 1GB 4870 is overkill and you come along and recommend the 1gb 4890 lol

I will probably stick the 4870 cos I really do need to cut down the costs. If I ever need more graphical power, the thought of two 1gb 4870s in crossfire is very interesting. More so than a single card 4890 lol

I guess the only component I could cut down on is the processor and step down to a 720BE...but a quadcore jus promises to be more futureproof. In that it will last me longer before I have to buy a new processor and keep me happier for longer.
