Afternoon All

In a moment of weakness last night i gave in to the upgrade urge and bought myself a vertex 2E 120gb.

Shortly after unwrapping said item i realized i have no idea of the routine required to get the most out of it in Win 7.

I don't expect anyone to hammer out a legnthy personalized plan for me here, but any links to any decent guides or nuggets of advice would be appreciated.

What do most of the ssd users do as regards partitions, is it worth splitting the drive with only 120gb to play with.

Is there a recommended amount to leave unallocated?

Im also thinking of setting 2 profiles - one for gaming etc to be kept on the ssd and another for general browsing etc to be kept mechanical. Any advantage to this>


I have so far in my to do list:-

Plug ssd into existing set up - check firmwear
Unplug other drives - run Win7 setup
Make sure defrag and one or two other things are turned off.
Install speed sensitive applications.
Install Steam
Use junctions to move some steam data to mechanical drive

OCZ recommend leaving 15% of the drive unallocated.:eek:

I compromised and set mine to 105Gb, 102Gb just seemed wrong :p

And make sure it has come with 1.11 firmware, if not upgrade. It's write speed is much faster (not that it was slow in the first place)

Also take note that you shouldn't run two many benchmarks and not more than one in a session to allow the sandforce controller to recover the drive up to full speed. If you keep running benchmark after benchmark, your results will just get worse and worse as your drive only "repairs" itself when your computer is idle.

Also note that OCZ state that AS-SSD PERMANENTLY slows the drive down until you use hdderase on it and reinstall windows again which is a bind. The way the sandforce controller works means that it can't recover from what AS-SSD writes.
