Yet another new 172 owner!

Very nice. How do you find it compared to your vRS?

A bit like chalk and cheese really. The vRS has bags of low down torque, makes for very easy driving on the commute, also makes for easy overtaking and has great in-gear speed. The 172 on the other hand is all about revs, nothing really to shout about before 5k, then it takes off nicely :)

Steering is much less assisted on the 172, the vRS was standard modern day VAG stuff, good grip but a bit roley poley! The 172 turns in super sharp with very little roll but then it's not as comfortable, it is lowered a tad on Eibach's though!

Both great cars at the end of the day!

Oi Oi !!!
She looks an absolute minter mate, can't wait to give it a good thrashing next weekend! Not sure about this air-con malarky mind! :p

Ev0, what splitter is that from? Laguna? It really works well for the front end.

With the fairly low price of the mk1 172's offering great value for money & the 'new' 182 series available for around £10k, the RenaultSports are certainly catering for quite a large audience. Who know's, if insurance remains fair alongside running costs, the market may turn towards the sellers!?!

Stunning car, exactly what I'll be after in August/September time :)

Black and red (flame red?) are the best colours to have that shape of 172 in, let me guess £5k-6K depending on mileage?

Neil.

Good choice buddy.

I'd probably get some 16" Speedline Turinis (or whatever they're called off of the facelift models) but apart from that, very nice.

Was given a ride in one once and they don't half shift, keep pulling and pulling.

:)

Nope 'tis an RGM jobby sprayed up, nothing to do with me thought the old guy who owned it before me (he was 48 when he sold it to me) put it on lol!

I ummed and ahhhd whether to keep it on but decided to leave it, when my wing is repaired in a wek or so it's coming off to be resprayed to get rid of all the stone chips.

tbh I don't think it'd look any good on any colour other than the black or dark blue, on the lighter cars you can see all the lines of the car very easily and it'd stick out/look out of placce too much. On the darker cars everything kind of blends in so it looks ok. That's a crap explanation but you get what I mean :)

Turinis are nice but get a set of 15s to keep in with the original size :) Or just keep the original OZ F1 Cups, although the Turinis are nice and light (no idea how much so compared to one of the original 15inch rims, would liek to know though!).

saw an absolutly gorgeous 182 in the renault garage in southampton last week, does anyone have any idea how long you can have a test drive for, and do you get to go out without a guy from the garage so you can floor it????

Also is their an age limit, or driving licence limitations? I'm 22 and have a clean licence.

No age limits, and I've found on most test drives for "fast" things they have encouraged me to floor it, it's a good selling point for them :)

I had the MD of a Honda franchise ast in the passenger seat telling me to red line it through the gears down a dual carrageway :)

The Turinis only appeared on the Cup as standard :)

Good to hear the comparison. I came across this long term test of the Fabia VRS from Autocar the other day: link (11mb PDF). I don't have the bandwidth to host for long so download today if interested!

After looking around at pretty much all the other cars available I'm now thinking about modifying the Fabia. I've never done anything to a car so not really sure where to start. The three things I'm thinking of are engine remap that should take the power of 130bhp to over 170bhp and the torque from 229 to ~300lb/ft (over 400Nm), replacing the springs with something these: Eibach Pro-Kit and replacing the dampers with these: Eibach Pro Damper.

Those three things wouldn't be much more than £1k if that and I certainly can't think of any way I could get that kind of performance for that kind of money by selling and buying something else.

Sorry... this is a bit of a thread hi-jack. BaJ, did you ever think of doing anything to your Fabia?
