So, I want to chill out a bit on a Sunday afternoon, play some FIFA online on the PS3 while my girlfriend plays around with one of her cities on Sim City on the PC. No problem I thought, we have legitimate copies of both games, so why not?

Well, Origin thinks otherwise. Both games are paired to the same Origin account and so that's a big fat NO as far as EA are concerned. I can't log in when she's playing Sim City, and if I'm already logged in on FIFA she can't load her cities.

Great, yet another step forward for gaming! Thanks Origin!

It the same with steam games on the PC

I own over 200 games on steam but only one can be played at a time..
So if I have a mate round I can't let him play any of my steam games at the same time on my other PC...so am stuffed..

They really need to allow something like Netflix does,,I.E allow 2 or 3 logins at a time on a single account

The whole point of these DRM game clients is one legitimate account and one unique key code sold per game, so only one user at a time. Been like this for a while now.

Agreed. This surely has to be a legitimate use-case. If we were both wanting to play the same game simultaneously then I could see the issue, but it seems a bit of a ridiculous situation to be in that everyone in a household needs to have a license for every game, especially on different platforms. In future I'll be creating separate accounts for each game wherever possible.

Can't you unlink the PS3 details from your origin account?

Apparently I can, but according to the person I just spoke to on the EA support live chat I need to call an 0870 number and speak to someone to do this. Will call them next week and try and sort it, thanks for the idea :)
