Yet another project....The uncrashed spitfire

Well took me a day to cut it up and then rejoin it in targa styleeeee.

Just waiting on some catches then a testfit on the car few tweaks hear and there and i'll tidy it up, properly weld it etc rather than the tac welds at the mo.

Makes it all worthwhile when you take some time out to clean it up, gave it a carefull wash as it dont have a roof yet.

Got the new seats mounted too, they are awesome, the build quality is somewhat iffy but they fit my needs perfect.

Look at funny angles but its just an optical illusion

Just waiting on my carpets and trying to sort this soddin first fuse that keeps blowing and i'll be on the road again.

getting teasingly close now to being finished, door cards are on, all the door mechanisms are working, all the central locking is working, and all gauges are workin, touch wood.

IMG_3060.JPG

Went for something different with the door cards and all the interior, i want all the fixings visible think it looks quite cool myself.

Picked these up today aswell, custom made to my design very nice job.

Do people still read? lol i seem to post and post.

bugger there was one of them in my local scrappies, its cleared now, coulda stolen the hydraulics for that roof.

She runs!!! got it running and out on the road tonight, few issues to sort but it feels great everything is so tight and polished inside the car now, no knocks or rattles whoop.

Not updated in a while, been working on the roof, making the targa idea work, my first methods were nice but it was just too complicated for my liking. Also with all the structure in place the panels were too heavy to be practical. So i went a different approach and created a new one in fibreglass, this one does work, just doing the final adjustments to the catches.

Here is the first install

On a trip up to knockhill for the classic speedfair recently i noticed a few problems with the rear end, my universal joints had gone for a start, but also i had some wheel problems.
The universal joint issue ended up being worse than i thought, they were completely destroyed and had destroyed the flange of the shafts, whilst sorting them i had to change the wheel studs, they were just pathetic.
So replaced them with landrover freelander studs which are a perfect fit replacement.

The closest axle runs freelander ones in comparision to the std triumph ones
quite a difference huh.

The rear window in the hardtop is too heavy and also im worried about buffetting from wind so i came up with a soloution, just one wee problem, no one knew how to do it or had attempted it as they said it couldnt be done amateur stylee.

So i gave it a bash.

Perspex rear screen with louvres ala F40 and other cars.

This is just the test screen to see if my theory works.
hence thin cheap stuff from b&q, the final screen will be made of thicker acrylic.

That isnt distortion just the light reflecting wierdly.

My new rubber finally arrived for my new wheels aswell, they do look super mean now.

Toyo Proxes PX4 Kevlar. 25mm wider than the minilites on at the moment.

Awesome thread, sounds like you are nearly there! Read all the thread when you've posted. Please keep posting :)

its my dads toy, its a wolf in sheeps clothing, nothing is std in it, the engine is awe inspiring race engine more torque than i've ever felt in anything, 520bhp, 430lbs. :D

have trouple with the drivetrain on that, we had to fit a dodge viper gearbox to keep it all in one piece, we also snap driveshafts every so often.

anyway back to the spit, the new wheels are on, suspension still needs to settle.

Its a mean mean look i think.

looking nice mate! really nice. :) They always remind me of my old mans BGT somehow, wonder why! :p :o

An old boy (friends dad) was welding up my 19 today and he has a whole garage load of spares including a new engine (well, 'an' engine) for the spitfire if you want to collect some spares.

he was doing the car over the last 5-6 years but finally scrapped it a few months ago when he admitted he didn't have the time or inclination to finish it anymore. he was asking me about ebaying all the parts, he listed a few things not it all though. Aparently he spent about £2k on parts before bottling it (obviously not expecting all that back lol). In Edinburgh north, so if your interested say i'll pass you his number if you like. Or let me know if your after anything and I'll ask him.

:)

theres not really anything i need anymore im affraid i have pretty much every spitfire part i need, everything else i need will be off more modern cars.

thanks for the offer though,

Cool idea with the louvres! If I can make a suggestion to stop the acrylic wrinkling up like that, make a frame up and bolt the sheet into it. Heat the plastic locally and push the louvre through into a mould with a die so they are all the shape. You shouldn't get too much distortion then :)

Ideally you'd make a mould with all the louvres in it and have the sheet bolted to that, heat the whole thing and press them all in at the same time but it would be a lot of work and it would take a lot of pressure.

Well im getting there slowly but surely the roof is finished fibreglassing in the shed and is now just waiting a sand and some painting, two removable panels are finished.

Got the fireextinguisher plumbed in today and a few smaller issues fixed hopefully be driving again when the weather improves still got lots of teathing bits to do to make it a bit more reliable but all mainly to do with cooling issues getting some mods i did to the Electric water pump sorted.

Car has settled now, new wheels look awesome in my view still trying to hunt down a spare and center caps for them, local scrappies have a full set but not willing to split and if i had 3 sets of wheels i would get murdered by the women in my life.
