Yet another project....The uncrashed spitfire

the mechanical noise is unburned fuel going through the exhaust, basically the rev limiter misses a spark if the limit is reached, its a bit more complex but that is the basic.

To be honest the only way to go these days if you want electronic ignition is megajolt, its just so awesome nothing else compares.

thanks for the responses guys.

Finally tackled the biggest problem i have had recently with the spit.

Basically the targa tops didnt look quite right, the std hardtop looks crap, and at the end of the day its a convertible car and i want it to remain convertable.
Because of the racing seats and the full roll bar, no std hood will work with it. So i had to make a custom hood, its taken me around a year to think up this concept.

So the soloution i came up with is the following:
Mk1 triumph spitfire hood frame
1500 spitfire front panel
1500 spitfire hood
custom extension
custom brackets

Took a while hunting down quite a few of the parts as they are quite rare and expensive which i wasnt paying for.

brackets i made to fit it to the car

and how it fits to the mk1 frame.

The design of the mk1 frame is that it is removable from the car and stores in the boot, which i feel is the best soloution for the car.

And here is the frame on the car with the new extension, this is the final mockup, it needs re-welded and then painted. But the theory works. Another first for this car.

The tension on the hood is near perfect, i just need to leave the hood on for a few days to take the creases out from it sitting in a heap for a year.

well chuffed with this mini project, it was all trial and error and seems to have worked perfectly.

Well i replaced the cylinder head again, this time everything has been re machined to be the tightest tollerance i can, re-routed all the water pipes and re-designed the cooling system. Fired it up and boy! what a difference, the car is a beast now, its running almost perfect, just need to finish these webbers and i'll be happy enough to get it back on the road for some final tweaks.

In the mean time during these lovely april showers i've been sorting out another improvement.

Aero on the front has been crap and as much as i liked the orange it had to go from the spoiler, so i have been re-making a new custom one from fibreglass.

This is the rough outcome of tonight, constructed out of alloy and fibreglass, its super strong, just needs to look a bit less bumpy :D My first attempt at fibreglass and it shows. But there is a lot of matterial there so i will just sand it out smooth.

overall shape is just what i wanted.

only problem is what do i sand it with! angle grinder flap disk is too harsh, sander is not brutal enough, shape means most other tools are impossible.

grey is just a guide coat as it was 4 colours i couldnt see where to sand.

Its on the road! yay, past MOT with no issues.

Been terrorising the streets of edinburgh trying to get the engine and suspension tuned in.

Remember me, its winter, car is off the road, another project.

This time im working on a one off gearbox.

Start off with a spitfire single rail gearbox, spitfire 3 rail gearbox and a dolomite 1850 gearbox. And combine them to provide a bomb proof spitfire close ratio box.
