Couple of questions.

I'm currently running 3.6GHz @ 1.5v, maxing out at 57c under 100% Load.

I did try 3.7, but after 2 hours with HotCPU, upon returning to my pc, it seems it locked up, and the screen didn't come out of powersaving.

How much can I safely up my voltage to get the stability needed? I'm guessing 3.8 must be possible, if temperatures are so low at 3.6? But I'm unsure of how far I can take the voltage.

I have an Abit IP35Pro, Freezer 7 and 4GB OCZ 8500 Reaper HPC.

Also, I purchased this as a "Guaranteed to run at 3.3ghz", how do they guarantee such a clock speed?

They don't. 99% of all q6600 run at 3.3 Ghz so the 1% they get back is paid for by the 99 they sold for an extra £50 each plus they sell it on anyway as B grade.

Is your 1.5v in bios or windows under load?

I need 1.56v in bios to run at 3.8ghz but after vdroop and vdrop that's about 1.47 in windows under load.

If your temps are good, which they are since I run at high 60's at 3.8Ghz after several hours on prime95, then you should be good for more.

However, what are you using to measure temps and does hotcpu test all 4 cores?

Prime95 is recommended for cpu testing.

i bought the same bundle the cpu had a vid rating 1.3250 and i could not get it to boot into [email protected] till i put 1.51v thru the cpu and as soon as i ran prime if failed straight away.i contacted OC's and they said send it back we will check it,sadly the cpu has still not arrived and it looks like that's the last i will see of it.Be happy with 3.6

Did you change the RAM Multiplier Cleric?

Greebo: I have 1.45/1.46 showing for VCore under cpu-z, fully loaded, and 1.3v idle, but I have speedstep enabled, so that's with 6x multiplier instead of 9x, I'm unsure whether that makes a difference?

I believe HotCPU does test all four cores, it at least loads them all, anyway.

I'm using Speedfan for checking temperatures. It lists them Core0-3.

Its possible that he got such a bad chip, I have a chip that will boot into windows at 1.36v but fails Prime one 1 core instantly, dropping back to 3.2ghz and uppping the voltage to 1.45v improves the length of time prime95 runs to about 2hours 30mins but it still fails, now it may be my cooling but coolers can't do magic, the air coolers only knock about 10 - 15C off temps and besides it seems to respond to more voltage.

What is worse for a chip, high voltage or high temperatures? (although i guess with one, you also get the other)

I did the pencil mod on my board, and 1.5v in BIOS is 1.5v in Windows (stays the same idle or under load)

What volatge could i safely put this up to, to try and OC further, or does it not mater too much, provided you stay under 70c under load??

Well, I wouldn't want it running 24/7 at more then 1.55v it's just not worth the extra 100Mhz. I'd say under air don't go above 1.55v?

no luck with the OC guide and after consulting 2(tech) forums i did change the ram mutli...several times, prime failed as soon as i started O/Cers asked me to send it back,oh they also asked me to try with one stick of memory in and upping the NB voltage, guess what still no joy

Just a duff chip then. I'm running 3.7 Stable now, it wouldn't post at 3.8 :(

Did you purchase a "Guaranteed Overclock" chip?

By the way, without trying to be pedantic, the code you wanted for the quote was
Code:
