I'm just about to buy a 1941 shape brass Zippo, just because I want to feel like a G.I :D

I have the shame urge when watching Band of Brothers! I ended up buying s asecond hand one for £3 which probably wasn't the best move. :(

That's what made me want one more... I knew the standard issue lighters were zippos but watching war films and so on I noticed they weren't the same shape, they're more rounded on the top and I want one!

£20 or so from here with free postage is cheapest I've found looking tonight :)

I have a brushed aluminium zippo, it's a right good lighter only £12 on ebay.

you know that the WWII zippos were made of steel and coated in this black crinkly stuff?

Can't buy them though :p

I've seen brass ones on t'telly, that's good enough for me anyways. It's the shape I want most, and I've always wanted a brass zippo, having one chrome one and one chrome one with pearl and black stuff on it.

Looking on websites and stuff about WWII zippos they say a lot of the brass 1941 shape ones were used too, so although it's not the standard shape one that was issued, it probably was the same one I was creaming over watching Band of Brothers, so I'm happy :D

You can get the 1941 reps new for £13.99 + £2.45 P&P on the bay.

I'm scared of ebay for some reason. Probably spent too much time on here reading horror stories!

make sure the guy has a good rep and that you've read the listing very, very, very well and you'll be just fine.

Kindof off topic but my my Zippo doesn't work properly either. I'm pretty sure I'm refilling it correctly and I've even changed the wick and flint but nothing. :(

Has anyone sent their Zippo for repair or know how to?

It has been a while since I looked at my Zippo(used for a gas cooker) but I'm pretty sure they come with a lifetime warranty so if you send them off to Zippo HQ(somewhere in the US) they promise to repair for free and return it to you, possibly need the warranty slip though. This is if the tip of interlacing the wick doesn't work :)

yeah they are really good.

i have a really old silver plated one (the silver plate had long since peeled off) and the hinge was knackered and i ruined the inside by filling it with some solvent from the lab i worked in, the wheel was a bit dodgy aswell - sent it off to them - took about 6 weeks and it came back with a new hinge and a new inside - great service.

£30 for a lighter!!
why not just buy a refillable clipper or electric lighter

Some like to spend thousands on a watch that quite frankly does exactly what my £24.99 jobby does but might look better.
