Upgrading from SN95G5v2 - so big jump here.

Not sure about a couple of things
1. Memory
2. Cooler
3. DVD (are they all much of a muchness now?)

You could do better for the money on the memory. The CPU cooler's OK but not highly regarded. I'd take the Tuniq Tower instead of it, especially as it costs less if you include the fan.

DVD drives are all pretty much the same these days. I'd shell out one more quid to get the Panasonic or Samsung though, mainly because I'm paranoid like that.

How much did all that cost? I can see if I can beat it. :)

EDIT: Are those disks for RAID or simply for more storage?

Well, £977.82 excluding VAT and delivery.

I was wondering about the cooler - that one seems to be well reviewed and I don't like the idea of a cooler being 1mm or 2mm away from the case. Hence not going for Tower 120 Extreme. Reviewed better than the Freezer 7 Pro.

Did think about swapping the memory for this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-058-GL very popular stuff.

Wondering about waiting for the new 8800GTS.

Waiting to see reviews on the Hyundai W240D-PVA, but will prob go that or the TN version at some point.

Disks for RAID, I will eventually be setting up a NAS somewhere.

This looks pretty darned good to me:

The Seagates will be faster than the WDs you have above. The WD is in there for storage and redundant backup. The case, CPU, mobo, and cooler are a tried-and-tested combo that should overclock well and fit nicely. The soundcard should help a lot with surround-sound games. The GPU is a bit smarter, IMO, since you can do the overclocking yourself and pocket the difference in price. The PSU should be more than up to the task of powering the rig. :)

Don't know much about EVGA - good make?
I thought I read somewhere that the X-Fi, 64bit vista and 4gig didn't get on all that well?

EVGA are a pretty good make, a major partner to Nvidia, not quite sure if the terms remain the same but they'd be called a tier 1 manufacturer for ATI and you get a 10 year warranty plus they have a "step-up" programme so that you can exchange your graphics card for a faster one within a set time limit.

Billys specification looks unsurprisingly good but I'm afraid I don't know about X-Fi problems and Vista. Vista 64bit certainly doesn't have problems with 4gb of Ram on its own, in fact without a 64bit OS 4gb is slightly wasted as you will only see somewhere in the region of 3.5gb of it. :)

Groovey - thanks guys - just need to convince myself I won't bork up the build now. Everyone I have built has had issues in the past...

You'll almost certainly need a fan to go with the cooler since it is just a heatsink at the moment, any 120mm would do but I've heard Sharkoon and Scythe mentioned as being quite good.

You could easily get away with the 520w PSU if you wanted.

Finally, have you tried the mouse to make sure you get on with it? Other than that it all looks good. :)

About mice....

Apart from spending the cash and getting one - I don't know anywhere (and I guess you can't tell me due to competitors rule) where you can play with them prior to purchase.

I thought about the G9 as it has the "fat hand" mod you can do...

I've wandered into my friendly local PC store (or superstore if that is what you have) before and asked to try out a few - they are generally happy enough to help if you don't pick a busy time. Worth a shot anyway as it is a fair chunk of change.

are the precision grips bits of textured rubber by any chance? Gotta love ridiculous names companies use when they're trying to oversell a feature. There's some face cream advert which comes on TV which advertises its 'precision applicator', which is actually a small hole at the end of the face cream tube. Revolutionary.

More than likely yeah...

Almost as much fun as undefined scales... our fish scores a 9 on the hertenflrugson freshness scale! (is that good? bad? whats it out of?)...
