Yet another tyre thread

I've just had my Vred's delivered from elite, same size too :)

Be aware that there is very little in the way of 'rim protection' (teehee) on the falkens - infact on the focus ST the things actually look a size too small, with the rims sticking out from the tyre! Not good if you let others drive your car ;)

The Vred's on the other hand are very good, the rim protection is about as good as on the conti sport 2's they replaced.
 
I had a set of Falken 452s on my last car on the rear and was actually quite surprised how well they gripped. Road noise was shocking though, as were the worn edges with 5k miles.

Interestingly, evo rated the vredsteins top in the subjective test.

The eagle F1s wiped the floor with the rest of the competition, comming 1st and 2nd in Wet Lap times, Wet Lateral G and Wet Subjective. Although only 6th in wet breaking, they were only 2 metres short of the best time, and came 2nd in dry breaking

that will do me.

Who cares about any of that crap, you could save a few quid by going with the un-tested Falkens all the cheapskates on the one-make forums swear by!

I'm really surprised by the Hankooks. I thought they were just a budget brand yet are destroying the competition when it comes to bang per buck. Might have to try a set next.

You mean a commercial publication influenced by advertising didn't test the tyre so its completely rubbish even though you probably haven't even tested it? How narrow minded.

We took a punt and the Falkens. We are cheapskates and need small savings where we can make therm. We have both rated them better than the Sport Contacts that were on there in the first place.

All tests are going to be subjective to some manner. I can value the opinion of someone who owns my exact vehicle to give a good opinion when compared to the stock tyre supplied with car which is also commonly the most preferred but now have inflated prices due to availability. I took a Punt on Yokohama Parada Spec 2 tyres on the CTR. They have had better overall performance compared to 040s despite not being reviewed in Evo. They are also incidentally recommended by Aston for my bosses car and by other CTR owners. Can't be too bad eh? Well maybe the longevity but that's not too different to the Potenzas where 5k miles from a set isn't unknown.

No reputable UK publications have tested it, therefore no reputable UK data is available therefore until such time as it is I shall ignore the bleatings of the 'WOW I SAVED £30' crew and buy proven tyres. With most peoples driving style they could fit Linglongs and probably not notice any difference, its only when one day you find yourself in an emergency situation that you really need the extra grip a premium tyre can provide. This might not happen for 10 years, during which time you'll tell everyone who will listen how amazing your 20p tyres are - or it might happen on the M6 tommorrow where you'll be very grateful of the 8 metres less a Bridgestone Potenza S-02 was recorded as taking to stop than a Michelin Pilot Sport in Autocars 2004 test.

FWIW the 'inflience by advertising' tests in UK publications are carried out at the Continental Contidrome. Despite this, Continental themselves never really do any better than middle of the table which knocks your conspiracy theory on the head.
 
Bad news i'm afraid gents. Can't get hold of the Vredsteins as there are none up north and they cost a fortune to get them from down south :confused:

Gonna try some Parada Spec 2s as they are in stock and are supposed to be a pretty good tyre.

£75 each btw. £120 each on Blackcircles :)
