Hi

In the process of planning the next upgrade for my son's PC. He has had head turned by flashy new 1070Ti cards but I'm not sure it's the best way forward.

Current set up
I5 - 4670 - 3.4ghz
Asus H81m-plus
8gb DDR3 2133
Gtx 770 2gb
128gb SSD
PSU Corsair RM550 Gold

Monitor is Acer S236HL

Razor accesories

This is used for 95% gaming, mix of older games for me and newer games for him.

He would like to upgrade the gpu to at 1070 or 1070ti but is it worth going this way or upgrading something else first? Maybe a 1060 card and a better monitor?

Any thoughts welcome

The 1070 would be overkill with that CPU, in my opinion. However, a 1060 would be a good fit for that system and monitor combination.

So worth using the difference in costs to put towards a better monitor or is there a glaring hole in the spec for the next couple of years supposing I add a 1060?

For the 1060, the current 1080p monitor is perfect. If you do get a higher res monitor at 1440p, you'll be maxing out the 1060 at which point the 1070 would be a better buy, but then the costs add up.

This system is still good enough for at least 18 months or so.

Thanks for the advice, 1060 6gb card on the way, in true man maths way decided to buy a 144hz monitor with the savings! Obviously that means I'll need the other new stuff soon! Never stops.
