Yet another what car thread

Good bargain that Fox but no matter how much you pimp the mondeo and how much they i change i personally never find them a nice car.

It's not nice in the same way a decent Merc is but then, nothing is for this sort of money. a Top end Mondeo is a darn sight nicer than a base model Golf TDI PD 105.

Im not denying its good value for money, however the SE 1.9 TDI comes with a lot of good stuff including aircon, cruise control and dusk sensor, automatic driving lights + a fair few other electric goodies. Not what i would call a base model!

However, ive found the cloth interior seat trim to be appauling in all new VWs, not my cup of tea.

As for mondies being 'nicer', thats a matter of opinion! :)

Ive just got a Vectra 1.9 CDTI SXI company motor and really like it :)

550 miles out of a tank at illegal speeds which come up on the speedo quickly :D

At 10 seconds to 60, i really doubt its ability to have "illegal speeds" quickly. Guess it depends on your idea of "quickly" though.

70-120 in 5th last night was rather rapid but then again im used to 1.6/1.8 petrols :)

And a 105bhp engine :(

oodles of torque make it not as bad as it sounds. It was hard to believe I was driving a 105 PS car :)

250NM is not "oodles" of torque, infact its not that much at all in the grand scheme of things. The 105PS 1.9TDI feels very lethargic, only worsened in the VW range by the godawful SDI engine.

My friend had a Golf 105ps diesel as a hire car when he stacked his Westfield in France and I was geniunely impressed with how good it was. Interior was well put together, it had air-con and a decent stereo and he had little trouble keeping up with me driving back up the Payages at moderately illegal speeds.

if its a company car won't 16k be his max P11d value? Look at lists prices not broker prices
There's no reason the P11D value of the car should matter to the employer as it has no bearing on them, all they'd care about is what they actually have to pay for the car.

As for the OP however, the P11D value is what he'll pay tax on which he needs to be aware of. You may be able to get a Mondy for £5k under list but you'll still pay tax based on the list price. The ST TDCi lists at £22795 which equates to £92 per month in tax at 22% or £167 at 40%.

A small price to pay for driving around in a car much nicer than a Golf with an engine which barely outputs 3 figures.

In your opinion its a nicer car, i personally dislike mondeos, it may be a good package but if you dont actually like the car its not a good deal. The OPS bro in law might think the mondeo and the golf are horrid and prefer a KIA in which case we would both think he was crazy :D A 'nicer' car comes down to personal prefrence.

As ive said, the mondy is a better deal on paper but there are other options that the OP should be aware of.

As for just 105BHP, its all you need to comfortably sit at the speed limit. I also dont seem to remember the OP putting any emphasis on performance figures.
