Yet another which hard drive thread

Hi all,

My current configuration is:

Samsung HD321KJ (320gb)
WDC WD3200AAKS-75VYA (320gb) (boot drive)
WDC WD2500JD-00HBB0 (250gb)
ST3250620AS (250gb)

The ST3250620AS keeps disappearing from vista if I reboot it isnt detected by the bios until I power the machine right down then boot up again (might have to do this a few times).

So, I plan to get rid of the ST3250620AS. I will then keep the aaks as the boot drive, get a large storage drive and run either the samsung 320 or wd 250 for a backup drive.

So the questions are:

Keep the samsung 320 or the wd 250?

And get either:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (ST31500341AS) - £116.14

Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (WD10EADS) - £90.84

Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (WD1001FALS) - £83.94

Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD10EACS) - £75.89

2 x Western Digital Caviar Black 750GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (WD7501AALS) - £128.78

Really dont know what to do. Im swaying towards the 1.5tb but its a lot of data to lose if the drive fails... but then ive got the backup drive for important things. Oh I dont know.

Yeah, the 1.5TB is prob the best value there. Two 750GB drives = 2x the chance of an early failure (unless you want to RAID1 them)

You tried a new cable on the ST3250620AS? Anything in Event Viewer pointing to a driver problem?

No havent tried another cable. Cant see anything in event viewer.

seagates official reply to sorting out these issues with thier drives is to drop the warranty from 5 years to 3 years. that says a lot for how thier faith holds up in thier engineering.

Dont wanna take the risk really on that much data.

Whats the best 1tb drive to get?

Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (WD1001FALS) - £88.54 inc VAT

Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD10EACS) - £75.89

Think the WD10EADS is the one to go for?
