Hi all, I'm wanting to buy a flash for my 500d. I feel that the built in one really isnt capable of doign what I want it too, makes every thing very un-natural indoors etc.

So I'm trying to get a good cheapus flash and these seem to come up the best for what I want but there are so many different ones and they do so many different things, and e-ttl? What is that and would I benifit from having it? Also I see some of them 'zoom' or focus for specific zoom I like hte sound of that.

So all in all what should I be buying?

Evaluative Through the Lens Metering (ETTL) in simple terms allows the camera to know and tell the flash how much light to produce to expose the scene correctly. Common use of ETTL is in Manual mode where you can set your aperture/shutter/ISO (within camera limits) and the flash will do the rest for you.

Yongnuo 468 is the flashgun to get if you want a Yongnuo with TTL.

Cool thanks,
so whats the main difference with the 468 and 467? They seem the same to me :s except the 67 is cheaper?

I have a 468 and it died 2 days before going you the amazon (end of may).

I fixed it myself for 50p by replacing a cap in the head.

It works a treat now!.

Thanks everyone just bought a 467, got it for £30 with a diffuser and everything second hand 2months old I think :)

I've got two of the 460s, and one has stopped working. It makes the high pitched charging squeal but never fully charges the flash, is this anything like the problem you had? I'm going to be taking it apart when I get the chance anyway, just hoping it is an easy fix :)

BE CAREFUL!!!!

I've been shocked by a flash unit, not fun.

Wow this doesn't sound good, I hope this isn't a common problem.. But then again for £30 I can't really go wrong compared to the canon equivalent prices.

Got my flash today and wow the difference it makes being able to focus flash in different directions makes a huge difference. My photography is going to get more interesting i think.

Sorry Lol, I got shocked when I used to carry out the below 'bare bulb' conversions.

Ah right, that's cool then... I certainly wont be doing any conversion to mine. I'm useless with electronics, i would end up melting the whole thing down lol
