Thinking of re-locating to York due to work.

IS there anyone who lives in or around York who can recomend the nice areas to live and the areas to avoid? Preferably looking for somewhere that is on the outskirts verging toward more rural than city centre.

Where's the work?

Well I will be working on the road all around North Yorkshire. So probably York, Knaresbrough maybe up to Malton and Pickering as well I am not 100% as the details will be worked out when or if I take the job.

Been trawling the estate agents with the lass and whilst we would move within the area of York it would be on the North side of York as we dont want to be too far south. York is about an hour from where I live currently for our families which is just about perfect.

Seen a few houses in Hunsington or something like that which look quite nice. Not particularly certain at the mo

edit: Whats wrong with Acomb? Saw a few nice houses in that area

I lived in Huntington for about 2 years, it was very nice and only 10 to 15 minutes walk from the centre. There is a huge horrible council estate near it though which hurts it in some parts

Fantastic city to live in though, you will not regret it one bit

What about a place called Skelton? Looks like its just north or the ring road. Smallish village

If your on the road, possibly look into Northallerton or surrounding villages??

Nice place to live, bout 40 min from the likes of malton, 40 - 50 to Pickering.

not bad house prices etc etc.

I live here, used to commute to Malton everyday. loved every minute of the drive, the views are amazing!

Are you looking to buy or rent? could help you out getting with the areas if needs be...

Will be buying.

Narrowed it down to half a dozen properties around Huntsingotn, Skelton and some random named place-on-some random river.

Just have to see what they are like next

200k we could possibly push it a bit higher but the property would have to be absoloutly perfect for us to go any higher than 200.

Perfect school (with her being a teacher as well) and country side sounds great

This is it, really will need renovating, however I think you could get this for about £180k, easily worth £220k - £230k once modernised.

Ours just around the corner, corner plot have extended is around £250k

This is also in a nice part of town, again near broomfield school, just a 5min further walk from the countryside!

Thanks for the info. We hadnt really thought of Northallerton but I have a mate from work who lives there who has recomended the place and it does look nice. Further north as well in case we do want to go back and visit the rents.

Thanks for the info, got 9 properties we are going to go visit. 2 in Northallerton, 2 Huntsington (or whatever it is called) 3 in Stamford Bridge, 1 in Skelton and 1 in Newton on Ouse.

After all this hopefully the job offer (and the nice renumeration I am wanting in turn for taking it ) will all go ahead as planned.
