Anyone leave up that way? Heading up at the weekend for a stag-do. Will be going to the races on Saturday, so tips are welcome.

Can I expect any decent nightlife or eateries?

What have the green bits of trees got to do with York?

Back On topic Nightlife isn't too bad plenty of nice places to eat also or so I recall t'has been about 2 years since I was last there

In honesty it's not an amazing place for a night out.

It's a tourist city, so most of it shuts down after the shops shut. There are a few nice places there though. Evil Eye is a definite hit.

Another vote for Evil Eye here, their Long Island Ice Tea's are fantastic, as are their Mojitos :) The atmosphere is slightly studenty with a dash of rock/goth on the side. Hope you aren't claustrophobic though :)

Italians - Restaurante Bari on the Shambles, or la Vecchia Scuola
Indians - King's Ransom, near the river
Mexican - Plunketts. Their Chicken and Orange Fajita will change your life :)
Lunchtimes - Victor J's, Oscar's, loads of places actually

Dress up to go into evil eye lounge ? No.

Pro tip: buy your barman dude a drink or two :)

Race days, no one will be in town until after the races have finished. Most people though start at the bottom of Micklegate and visit each pub along the way to the Racecourse...

After the Races have finished it should be busy in town;

Evil Eye, has been said a few times
House of Trembling Madness
Living Rooms (at bottom of Micklegate)
Slug & Lettuce
Orgasmic
Revolution
Pitcher & Piano

There are loads of pubs/bars spread across the centre, for food I can recommend a few places but most won't let you in if you're in a tanked up stag group;

Piccolino
Revolution
Kennedy's
El Goucho
Saffron Desi
Bobo Lobo

Theres the usual list of chain places to eat too - Zizzi, GBK, Pizza Express, Nandos etc etc..
