You alright?

Sorry to revive the thread but this happened to me again this morning.

Said Alright to the security guard downstairs as I do every morning.

He said "Fine thanks, yourself?"

I say "Not bad thanks, you?"

Or something to that effect.

I should start saying hi/morning/afternoon.

When i lived in Sunderland when passing someone it was usually alright? and that can be answered quickly with Iye or yeah.

But now I live in Huddersfield when walking past someone they ask how its going how can you answer that quickly!

a guy i work with always asks everyone "are you alright?"

one day another colleague got angry and snapped "of course i`m ******* alright, why wouldnt i be?" :)

i dont have a problem with it in general only with people asking as they're walking towards me because i then dont have time to reply and ask back

You must walk extremely quickly.

OP - nothing wrong with pleasant small talk, it's not harming anyone and small pleasantries can be beneficial to morale!

He's just trying to be polite. Maybe there's better thigns to say than "Y'alright", but would you rather people you know just blanked you when they walk past?

meh, needs more southerners input :p

WASSSSONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN BEYYY!!!

or in a more formal way...

'SSSOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNN!!

can't beat a cornish greeting ;)

Being from Middlesbrough I usually say "now then" to more or less everyone I need to say hello to.

My wife has a rather daft habit of saying "Hiyaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!", or "Eeee 'ello!", before proceeding to ask "Eeee, how's your *relative's name here*, haven't seen him in a while is he alright?". This is with nearly everyone she bumps into. Takes us hours to get out of our local ASDA.
