I'm sure Iain and Nitro_Junkie, amongst others can relate to this!

A valve! Shock horror!

Seen some heavy duty action....

Not exactly small :)

When my dad was young he used to machine parts for large engines such as ship engines the size of a two story house, now those had some large bits, will have to post his pictures up sometime, some are amazing.

Yea, the mind boggles!

Love to build a powerplant using this kind of kit, though.......Would be immense. I can just imagine it all churning away under the hood!

Saying that, the 'Vettes intake valves were 1.94" but that's still considerably smaller :D

I looked at the first pic and thought "That's a very slender valve stem". Then I looked down a bit :D

Truly a "Dustbin lid on a stick"...

that is indeed a valve :D a proper sized valve

8 of them sat in the new engine for this year, at $1000 for 8 don't wanna be breaking any :p then theres the 8 titanium exhaust valves too

Awesome :D

How long do you expect them to last? This one was pulled because it was a little tired but I'd be interested to know how long it's maximum life (in passes, I guess!) roughly should have been....

Guess it varies a lot on the motor, mind :)

4 cylinders? or is it 2 valves per cylinder?

Yeah I'd expect it to be a V8, but if it's a drag car I'd expect it to be 4 valves per cylinder for maximum power/capacity

V8 indeed

Nope, drag racing is dominated by 2 valve per cylinder setups. Single block mounted cam and pushrod operated valve train. There have been a few attempts at 4 and 3 valve per cylinder motors with overhead cams but with the ludicrous amount of power run they are far from reliable and don't really offer any power advantage. A supercharger makes up for all kinds of flow problems :D

Awesome :D

With our setup (8/71 blower, not revving past 8500rpm) they should last a couple of seasons if there are no problems. I don't know how long they last in pro mod's but the motors are much more highly strung, revving to near 10,000rpm, harder rpm launches, 14/71 hi-helix blower and pushing towards 6.0 quarters.

Americans don't do 4 pots :p

Chrysler have done several high-performance four bangers. The turbo K-type inline-4s in various flavours and states of tune, the SRT-4s from the Neon, several others over the years. Chevy have had the Vortec, the Iron Duke 'Super Duty 4' and the various Family I and II motors that they shared with other GM manufacturers. Ford have Lord knows how many.....If we count bog-basic four pots rather than the upper end of the performance band, the list increases somewhat.

So sure, Americans don't do 4 pots.

Apart from when they do.
