In the heat of the moment I bet a larger percentage than 50% of the people in this thread who have posted "why is he just standing there" would do the same thing.

Its not a situation the human brain is used to coping with and so doesnt really know what best to do. Lots of people get run over that way - they make a mistake, end up in the path of a car and freeze.
