"You learn something new everyday" - So what did you learn today?

I learnt that if you get 2 polarizing films and put them at 90 degrees to each other then they block out all light, but if you put another in between them at 45 degrees then you get transmission:eek: (non polarized source)

Ah quantum mechanics.

Not quite educational, but I learned today that someone who had been harassing a lady friend of mine was in hospital earlier this year for peretonitis - IE a burst bowel.

A self inflicted burst bowel. From the arse end.

As such, i have learned that karma is worth waiting for

I start uni this weekend, doing Engineering like yourself ;)

Just been trying some maths they sent me to do before I go but I just can't remember how to do any of it :(

That when chuggers grab you in the street and try to get you to sponsor an African child for £2 per week they don't like it when you insist on sponsoring the cute one on their poster rather than some grotty fly covered one that you've never seen!

:D WIN

alternatively, I've learnt to move out of the way of a waist high gate, else you run the risk of knocking your gentlemen :(

I've learned that if you shout at enough BT employees until they pass you on to the next guy, you'll eventually get through to someone who speaks English as a first language, tells you BT are a bunch of 'tards and adjusts your alotted bandwidth from 0.5Mb to 7Mb while you're chatting to him about the price of pasties rather than over the 4 days quoted previously, allowing me to obtain more satisfactory results:

Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps

It just goes to show that while patience is a virtue, it doesn't get anything done.

I learn't today that my great auntie Pat worked in a Secure mental ward where they housed Peter Sutcliffe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Sutcliffe. And she was unfortunate enough to have to work with him:eek:.

think my nan worked with him too, she was a solicitor's secretary and went to meet him with her boss, apparently she was taking notes opposite him, and he looked at her shorthand, upside down to him, and corrected it for her, she was suitably freaked the **** out, but said his intelligence was undeniable, which made it all the more worrying
