RDM, firstly you are acting like they are very bad for the myriad of ways they kill people or treat people badly. I can't say how them following their religion, something we used to do, with their belief that they would go to hell and would be evil if they didn't do so, is worse than us who don't believe in religion and simply kill them off to get their oil because WE WANT TO. They have an excuse, we don't, except for greed. THey have a morale belief they are doing the right thing, we don't and we kill a LOT more people for something we don't at all believe is right. Which society is truly "evil" there?
The one who knows something is wrong and does it anyway, or the society that, misguided or not, they believe what they are doing is right, not wrong. they believe its not morally abhorent, or evil, they believe its what will get them everlasting happyness. They are scared of death, as really we all are, and so believe in something. We murder, yes i'll keep saying it, we MURDER them because of greed, no other reason at all.
I said we have learned a supposedly better way, i didn't agree we had, just that it was the general view. My above would pretty much show i don't believe that to be true at all. nothing they could do socially would change use going over there to take the oil where as, even if its wrong in our eyes. they do have the choice, you know, free will and all, to not get themselves into situations that their country see's as wrong. Its not like the guy didn't know having gay sex couldn't lead to this, or that a woman going in a car with someone she's not allowed to doesn't have consequences. None of that helps them when we kill them to take oil though does it.
Why is 50 years less than a generation? it depends how you use the term. My grandmother is still alive, she has some old fashioned views based on how she was brought up back in the, 1920's or so. There might have been 2 more generations to the family since then, but she still taught the 1st generation after her, so she had a massive effect, and she was in my life, and taught me things, and her views have had an effect, even if that effect is for me to think her views are insane(she's not racist or anything, just prim and proper and what not).
One generation doesn't start, teach itself and start its own society. Change comes about when an older generation stops having an affect on newer ones. An older massively racist generation has a large affect. even if their kids are "less" racist it will still be there to some degree. However that lessening affect gets bigger with every generation, but until that first one is gone the idea's and their teaching still has an effect on younger generations. Until they are completely gone and the idea's are wiped out society doesn't move on. A generation in the way you have decided to take it, means very little, society can not change that quickly. It didn't take 1 or 2 actual generations to change our philosophys and move away from religion, into science and become all great. We still have racism and descrimination, its abundant in our society, its also largely hidden. I know hundreds of people from all walks of life of all ages who out at the pub infront of other people have one view and behind closed doors have a very different view.
Who says Iran isn't getting it together you have an incredibly limited idea of how it was here 100 years ago, let alone there. I have no clue how it was 100 or 200 years ago there, from our history which is all we are really taught here (or at least were taught here a decade ago) things were pretty horrific here a very short time ago in the grand scheme of things. Again you are looking down on another society with an extremely limited set of views, and idea's and ignoring the attrocities we do here with far worse excuses.
You can not ignore the fact that by and large the masses there are taught that the things the punish harsly are very very morally wrong. So they are only trying to do the right thing as they have been taught. I think its a thousand times worse to do things for the reasons we do them. mistaken teachings or not, thats how they are brought up, thats how we were taught not so long ago.
AS for the paedo thing, the whole issue was brought to light as someone stated, because his boyfriend/ex boyfriend, who left there when he was 14-15 and lives here, shed light on it. 14-15, + sex here = jail term.
