young driver looking for insurance

i tried a few of the tips people have given on this thread and i managed to get one place down to £2037.07 for a Peugeot 106 1.1L, which i suppose isn't the cheapest thing in the world but its better that the 3 grand quotes i was getting.

Ok so 7 months has passed, in that time I've passed my test and pass plus and played around with car insurance in various ways on both the phone and on the internet and still the cheapest car insurance i can get is £2800 for a 1L corsa 06. What am i doing wrong...

It depends on the car and where you live. But forget anything with a turbo and bigger than a 1.6 until you have been driving for a good few years :P

Funny that, I got reasonable quotes on a 1.8 Turbo car in my first year of driving and didn't pay through the nose for insurance.

It's almost as if you can't make massive sweeping generalisations like that...

How old are you? If you're 17 or 18, there are limits to just how cheap it will be possible to get it

Also, try non-typical first time drivers cars like the Corsa. Something like a VW Bora for example, Ford Focus, Honda Accord... think outside the box with the car choice. Something like a Corsa is almost a stereotypical boy racer first car these days, covered in lexus lights, massive exhaust etc. and that sort of thing won't do insurance stats any good.

Do you live in Iraq or something?

A freind of mine who lives in Leeds and is the same age as you and has the same car as you and is a new driver pays £800.

You're doing something wrong! :p

It's mostly about damage to the car getting it in and out.

I know you could scrape the side, or bump in the front or rear, or something could fall on the car off a shelf, but if I had a garage the damage caused by an accident in it would have to be one hell of a catastrophe for me to even contemplate claiming for it, I wonder how many people actually do claim for stuff like that.

Sounds about right, maybe a few hundred quid more but it depends what postcode rating you are in.

Probably the Corsa....

Young people crashing Corsas is almost a cliché. Try something a size up / not so common for a first timer as Malc suggested, Focus/Mondeo etc... autotrader can provide you with some easy ideas and plates to put into the quoters.
