A young Fortnite player who says his dad has stage 4 rectal cancer is currently working as hard as he can to raise funds for his treatment. He’s making money the best way he knows how; by livestreaming on Twitch.

zylTV has been putting shifts in, streaming games like Fortnite for up to 10 hours a day in an effort to raise the money needed via the charitable contributions of strangers. Twitch requires streamers to be 13 years or older, though it’s not clear exactly how old zylTV is.

Regardless, the young man’s plight has started to make waves across the internet after one of his streams went viral on Reddit, with a number of gamers pledging their support and money in an effort to help zylTV and his family.

His cancer spread to his lungs and liver which brought him to stage 4 cancer. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy. These are the circumstances that the doctors gave him: No chemo one-year death, three years chemo 20% live. Please donate anything you possibly can. All money will go towards funding his medication. Much love from me and all of my family members.

Call me cynical, but as someone who quit a high paying job, moved home to live with my dad during his last 11 months before he sadly passed away from Lymphoma.

I can't help but feel like the lad is wasting precious time that he should be spending with his Dad. Stage 4 metestatic cancer that has spread like the way he says his dads has isn't curable, and 10 hours a day streaming is a hell of a lot of time that he could be spending with his Dad.. Not to mention that the lad is school age, i hardly see how he gets to spend any time with him.

What are your thoughts?
 
people do anything they can when faced with such a horrible situation. as long as it's not negatively impacting his own health then i guess let him. if he feels he's helping prolong his dads life, and the father is happy too it's not our issue to question it. also the headline is a bit misleading - headline says he streams for 10 hours a day, in the article it says upto 10hrs a day - big difference. he might only do the 10hr streams every now and again. streaming everyday for 10hrs would not be the best thing for the lad both mentally and physically. looking at his previous vids most are quite a bit shorter than 10 hrs.

I agree. He's wasting time playing games when he could be making memories with his dad. I guess he's just young and not mature enough to realise when he's gone, he's gone and he won't get the chance to chat to him again.
 
Well, can't really say. As each persons life is wildly different.

We may think that the youngster is missing out on last remaining memories with their father. But it could be they have plenty of great memories and playing and streaming for funds helps everyone overall: kid doesn't need to see the nitty gritty of their father ill. Funds coming in.

Or maybe their family structure was always about showing the kids that funds and finance is most important and also the best way to demonstrate your support to someone (it seems shallow, but again, it's a big wide world out there).

Or it could be their own coping mechanism with the situation.

So for me, I'd simply let them be, we don't know enough to make a truly informed choice or comment; Only speculation and what we all feel ourselves is the best, and not not necessarily whats best for them in their life in this situation.

in fairness as a parent i would probably encourage my kids to spend a lot of time doing other things if i was at that stage of a terminal illness
not going to be great company and tbh thats not the sort of memories you want kids to have of their final few months with their parents.

Same,

I think what he'd doing is great. But with anything in life now I just always want some form of verification first. It's just the way things are these days, you can't be too sure.

Good luck to the lad though, horrid.... really horrid situation.....

That was my thought too. Imagine not being able to afford health care. Genuinely grim.
