Your 1st Distro.

My first play with Linux was on a SBC machine with no screen, keyboard or mouse! Threw myself in at the deep end, but I learnt it much quicker than I would have with *buntu I reckon.

The distro was Debian/Woody I believe.

my very first stab was ubuntu in 2006-07 got a college computer to boot off the cd :D my first personal use was mandriva 2006 got one well with it, now am on ubuntu 10 and not getting on well with it :|

mine was SuSe in 2003/2004, I couldnt get to grips with it, and not having the internet at the time to help me, I just gave up. Flash forward a couple of years and I gave ubuntu a try and that lasted a couple of months dual booted with windows, but I went back to windows because of uni work. Since june 2008 ive been ubuntu all the way, no more windows. At some point I want to give gentoo a try but I dont think my girlfriend would appreciate me taking over her laptop to test it out.

Xandros on an eeepc 701. Much more recent than most of the above, but we all have to start sometime.

I fell out with Xandros and was on Ubuntu within a week, and am now starting to fall out with Ubuntu. Periodically I try to move to Debian only to come crawling back when it misbehaves too much (current issue is that it wont install on my p5q because it doesn't recognise the ethernet adapter, previous one was that it wouldn't recognise my dvd drive)

Ill get to gentoo/arch eventually :)

suse 10.1, i had loads of trouble getting anything working on my main rig. i gave up and found out that installing windows was very easy :p

now however, i have tried pretty much every distro running (apart from the ones like gentoo, slackware, arch etc.. havent got time to use those what with a baby now :p ) now im on the latest 64bit LinuxMint

with no troubles whatsoever :D really happy now on my OS. no viruses, no spyware no hassle! i do hate though, when something breaks like out of the blue.. say my wireless, its an absolute pain to get it working again which i have had to do before. (edit: only ever happened on ubuntu, no problems on mint yet.)

It was a Red Hat one, ages ago back around 1998, it was pants. I think I only liked it because it made me feel quite technical! Though back then I had no real need for some of the "power" functions in linux (pipes / greps etc) so no wonder I didn't stick with it at that time,.

Redhat 9 not so many years ago - could never get it to work once X started (monitor went blank) so moved onto Slackware 9 after spotting it on a magazine - had the same X problem and turned out the distributions weren't detecting my tft monitor correctly. Luckily Slackware didn't start X automatically and thanks to this forum I was able to solve the problem very quickly & easily.

Mandrake 9.2 was the first distribution I could get working with my adsl Speedtouch 330, so glad I have a router now :)

Ubuntu 6.06 on my only PC. I broke it everyday for a week and got bored and annoyed. Tried again with CentOS 5 on a server build and loved it.
