I find good black and white conversion very difficult to get right. It can be hard to get a really good range of tones from your colour original without losing detail somewhere in the image.

So inspired by Shimmyhill's B&W conversion, and with the above in mind, I suggest a thread to showcase your best B&W conversion, or even your best B&W shot! Please feel free to share how you achieved your result (unless it's trade secrets!). Sepia and tints also allowed I think.

I'll kick it off with what I consider to be my best B&W conversion to date. Taken this weekend of the canal in Berkhamsted. I used a downloaded action set to make the conversion. I'll post a link if anyone's interested?

Looks good, makes me think about the war for some reason, could be the old house.

For best B&W use the custom RGB to grayscale action thats comes in PS sample actions.

Wow  Good shots so far chaps.

Matt Harper, looks like there is a hint of tint in your shot, care to share the technique?

Cykey, as usual brilliant stuff. I bet that looks a treat at A2. Where was it taken?

OK, two from me. Originals weren't too special, but were taken with a view to "ageing" them. Converted on PS, smidge of sepia toning, added a little bit of noise, and cloned out the front of a Citroen Picasso in one, which kinda spoilt the effect!

(Sorry, only got the downsized web versions to hand at the mo!)

I'm not sure I've ever been happy with any of my straight B&W conversions, but since tints are allowed:

I think this was desaturated with the channel mixer and then duo-toned in photoshop.
