Your best more obscure / unsigned bands?

I have been listening to The Idanos, a local band. Was recommended them by one of the hospital scrub nurses, who is the mum of one of the band - she was in theatre pimping her son's band to anyone who'd listen :p

Too right you have, and for once* you were spot on

*may not be entirely true

hmm cant really think of anywhere apart from ebay or maybe japan since its already out there

if you find anywhere cheaper could you let me know though ,definelty still want to buy the proper version , has an extra 7 tracks that the promo disc doesnt have. probably end up just going into hmv and getting it though tbh

very good all round album imo

good interview with them here,

For an obscure (signed) band, I'm really loving Mostly Autumn at the moment...got Heart Full of Sky (their newest album) on Tuesday, and I've been playing it constantly...some really excellent tracks there, imo.

I must admit, they're probably nowhere near as 'obscure' as most of the bands posted in this thread, but I just needed a place to shout out about their greatness. :p

I really rate a band from Devon called Kolo.

On their website / myspace it's also possible to request either of their EPs (Normandy House and Thankyou for the Burning Sensation) and they'll send it you free of charge. :)

Does anyone remember a band called Hybrid UK? I used to listen to a lot of their stuff around 1999-2001. Can't get hold of any of their stuff anymore, I'm not even sure if their still together.

The Boxer Rebellion

awesome, awesome group
'overlooked due to their refusal to be categorised, and the fact that their sound is something fairly unique'

their debut album exits 'is a flawless and thoroughly entertaining record, one that rewards the listener with every play. There isn't a bad track on here, every song comes out of the traps and offers something quite special. As a rebellion against your everyday chart fodder, the album is an unconditional and resounding success'.

easily my favourite band out at the moment
a london based 4 piece, plagued by problems (including a life-threatening episode for the lead singer) and dropped by poptones shortly after the release of exits, the band have triumphed through adversity
they produce some amazing tunes, from thoughtful and melodic to heart-stoppingly vicious - there is something for every listener

i seriously adore this group :) they deserve every success
i do not know how they have managed to stay so unknown for so long
join the rebellion...

“This band can alter your life,” NME
“If you’re crying out for substance in music, The Boxer Rebellion are here to sooth your soul," Kerrang

Wow, Tesseract sound awesome, sort of like a mix between the cold mechanical style of Meshuggah/FTSD and the more melodic sections of the album Polars by Textures.

The other two bands sound a bit like Coprofago, great stuff. :)

EDIT:

For me at the moment, my favourite obscure band would be Atrox. A progressive/avant-garde metal band with one of the most bizarre but absolutely intoxicating female vocalists I've ever heard.

Silent Memorial (MySpaz link)

You'll like these guys if you're into 'progressive' rock/metal, they're like a Dream Theater meets Symphony X crossed with Deep Purple, they're unsigned and have an album coming out (Just finished mixing it apparently). Kinda cliché now I guess, but I think they're one of the better prog bands out there.

It would be more worthwhile if you actually posted some samples or a brief description of them instead of just posting a list.
