The story doing the rounds today is if the UK is involved in a future war the public might be required to join the armed forces.

What are peoples views on it?

I think in the event Russia attacked other European countries then I'd do my part, as it's a rerun of the start of WW2 when Hitler took over Czechslovakia, and then attacked Poland. We'd be in the firing line anyway.

I think this is a signal that we should be having a national service like they do in Nordic countries.

Feels like a bit of posturing to drum up support for more investment in the armed forces - make people feel it's more of a priority if they think the alternative is that they might get marched into battle themselves one day instead.

Hardly a surprise.

A mate of mine is an occifer in the armed forces, we chat about this stuff quite often.
With our current forces, inc the reserves, we could hold 2 cities if we were invaded.

It's been like that for at least 5yrs.

I wasn't allowed to join airforce because of my flat get. So I would expect that to get me out of service too

I've done my national service and to be honest it's resulted in a lot of good experiences and maturity/character building.

After that I'm sure the usual EDL type will be rushing to defend the country.

I don't see how Russia have the Military capability to attack NATO in conventional terms.

I imagine the worry, is that Trump will get elected and weaken the western alliance/NATO. Even then though, I still think Russia would get BTFO just by Europe at the moment.

Not sure being an unfit 50yo would work.. could do the cyber side of things.

Perhaps ensure the russian donors kids are sent with the rest.. I’m sure they won’t run for the border.

Also if this occurred all those on way lists would be rounded up and processed - if it’s going to be WW2 internment camps..

Ha, I know the feeling! I resent football to this day still. Football plays a dark part in my past and nearly put me off sport for life.

I say football. Football is the memory. It was more how PE was taught in school.
