Your current Fish tank Setups!

I bought a mithrax crab awhile a go to eat my bubble algae.
I was a bit disappointed when he actually ignored the algae, but i never expected him to turn into a bloody host!

I'm looking to upgrade my 56l.
After a bigger tank with a cabinet and a sump.

I've got my eye on the TMC Reef Habitat 90.

Does anyone have, or had, a TMC tank before, could use some feedback.

The tanks are good but their protein skimmer and lights are not the best generally TMC are better at making tanks than ancillary equipment. I personally prefer Deltec protein skimmer and Ecotec Radion or GHL Mitras for lights but these are more on the premium end of the scale so more expensive but you are buying into their ecosystem.

Their sump/weir and return pump arrangement are logical and sure beats making a custom sump like I did for my tank( was a pain in the backside) and on the 90 its quite spacious too. Just make sure you do not spill water when cleaning or changing water, as the laminated wood can get damaged, but I believe they have waterproof bottom, apart from that they are decent tank. The RO reservoir is quite decent sized on 90 just need to decide if you want to buy automatic RO topup system which is either float or sensor based. I did not trust either so had a controller as backup because I had one get jammed once and dump large amount of RO water into my system.

Thanks for info.

I was planning on getting the bare bones package and buying my own equiptment.

Been gifted a small tank, around 200 litres so going to grab an fx4 filter heater etc and get it filled up.
It'll give me an excuse to drive a couple of hours to pier aquatics to see what they've got in. Will get a 4*2*2 later in the year which is why I'll get the bigger filter. Probs look at an unusual pleco, birchir if I can source one of an alright size and either a sneakhead or cichlid as centre piece. Always had oscars so might try something else. Research time for the next few weeks

Idea didn't last long, ended up buying a Fluval Rio 240 as it looks smart, and in middle ground for size of tanks.
Frustratingly wont be here until the new year however think i've sorted my stocking with whats available at pier...
Columbian Tetras
Red Hump Geophagus
Blue Acara
Bristlenose Plec.

All small and should do well in the tank for life.
Will get in contact with Pier when the tank is here to hold the stock for me. Gone with Seachem Oynx sand, a little expensive compared to play sand which is what i used on my last tank but will help bring the colour out i think. Did look at central american tank having a nicaraguan cichlid but i'd have to mess with water chemistry.

Hi people, what image hosting service is good for uploading photos to this forum these days? I'm reasonably experienced and currently running 3 high-tech & 1 low-tech tropical scapes atm. Would be nice to join in here and stop being a non-contributing lurker....

Well the creeping Jenny is already off like a rocket. The tradescantia has established itself again after the batch last year spontaneously died off. Also trying a small offshoot of the parlour palm that we have growing. More light to the surface plants is definitely helping. The monstera will take over the tank eventually, tha thing grows roots like there is no tomorrow.

ImgBB occasionally works.

I’ve finally gotten a good handle on these surface plants.

Creeping Jenny growing like crazy.

Polka dot growing like crazy.

Monstera looking happier.

Pothos still needing a bit of a pick me up, but the newer leaves are looking better.

Have also changed all my thermometers to these - https://amzn.eu/d/049jFi3a

And have bought black mesh to tidy up the protection on the front of the tank, the netting has become untidy. I now know I only need to cover the front, so I’ll try to cut a neat semi circle that sits on the lip where the lid would go.

I can’t decide if I prefer it or not, but it is a tiny bit neater and interferes with the plants less. Also easier to move out the way as it now just slides on and off.

A few things happening:
- air stones on order, there’s just so much in the tank it’s reducing water flow and at night the plants are clearly sucking up the oxygen since the fish are gasping a bit more in the morning
- surface skimmer adjusted since we keep getting an oily film on the top (also not helping oxygen penetration). Think it needs adjusting slightly though as it’s sucking up a lot of the food.
- new blue led strip ordered for the marine tank to improve coral growth
- new corals about to be ordered

Looks good.

My reef tank currently under a towel for a 5 day black out.
Struggling like hell with algae and cyanobacteria.

Hoping to order my new tank soon and want to sort it out before the move over.

My Malawi tank has been going great fish all a decent size now and quite a lot of younger fish about so some survive from fry :D

Local fish shop had a crackin sale of driftwood recently so stocked up as plannin to rescape my Juwel Rio 240 soon, ive always just went with the default internal filter that came with it but fancy gettin a cannister on it but will see what takes my fancy when i start the build
