Your current Fish tank Setups!

Did a water change but it did not really help the intense tannin that had leached into the water from the bogwood. So I dropped £13 on a bag of Seachem Purigen.

The difference in 24 hours is staggering! The first photo is one taken a few days ago. You can distinctly see the intense yellow colouring in the water. The second pic was taken 10 minutes ago. This improvement took 24 hours. It may get even better over the next couple of days.

i would just leave the water for a while and keep up the water changes to remove the tannins

makes your fish look more colourful anyway :)

I like your little bushy plant front mid-left

I wanted to remove it quicker and lemon tetras actually show up better in clear water I think. Plus nitrates were a bit high and purigen sorts that out.

The plant is called a Cryptocoryne Wendtii. Has grown massively since it first went in. All my plants are growing well actually. Only been in a couple of weeks and I've already had to trim the Rotala and Hygrophilia.

So, filter media, does anyone make their own? I'd be dammed if I'm paying for it each time it needs changing...

If its a sponge based media will any type of sponge materiL do or is there a recommendation?

I managed to score a mixed bag of media, each bit was 2ft x 2ft so there was a fair amount. :D

Sure you can find the same online. And yeah, it's pretty much sponge but you can get different grades.

And when you say it needs changing, unless the sponge is physically torn/deteriorating I'd just give it a rinse in tank water. Even with the filter wool, I've kept the same stuff for the past year or so. :p

I tend to buy a 3m roll from finest filters, its cheap enough and lasts me ages. They even do filter foam precut for various filters.

Have you got plenty of cover in the tank for the female to hide? I had 2 female dwarf gourami and one male, while he was beautiful to look at he was an absolute ******** to the females. The only fish he wasn't aggressive towards was my panda corys. They even used his bubble nest to hide their eggs :D.

Cherry shrimp are now breeding, getting on well the Amano Shrimp as well.

This gourami is just a nobhead.... He's attacking the female now...

He's gunna have to go...

Is this a dwarf gouarami? Very strange if so - I have 8 in a 240L and apart from the occasional territory scrap they all get along just fine.

Crazy that hes going after everything though - their generally peaceful , more so if its dwarf.
I assume its planted well? Floating plants in particular...
